- AN EXPLANATION.
After the paper was published we
learned that Mrs. J. E. Andrewg had
modestly asked the omission of her
signature from the splendid article
on the “Mother’s' Relation to the Phy
sical Development of Hes Child,”
which appeared in the Monday issue.
Doubtless no one familiar with Mrs.
Andrew’s gerat zeal in the interests of
the Mother’s Congress and the Parent
Teacherg association would fail to re
cognize her authorship of the arsicle.

Desire of Railroad Increased.
The rapid advance of Gen. Persh
ing’s force into Mexico has increased
the desire of those at army head
quarters here to be permitted to use
the Northwestern Railway for moving
supplies. Cruces, a point that prob
ably will be reached by cne of the
cavalry detachments, is almost 200
miles from the border and Lake Bibi
cora a like distance. It was pointed
out that any .delay in getting supplies
through from the border to Casas
Grandes from where they can be sent
forward to the mobile units operating
south of there might interfere serious
ly with the plans of pursuit. Gen.
‘Funston evinced no impatience, but he
did show concern and expressed the
‘hope that Gen, Carranza would not
‘misunderstand the nMetive for his re
quest, o W

SAVING OF RAGS AND
OLD PAPER IS URGED
Manufacturers Face Serious Shertage
of Raw Material.
Save your old rags and papers in:
stead of burning or otherwise destroy
ing them.
This is the request of the United
States Department af Commerce
through Secretary William C. Red
field. It is occasiomed by a serious
shortage of raw material for the man
ufacture of paper. Secretary Red
field states that the collecting and
savirlg of rags and old papers would
greatly improve existing conditions
for American manufacturers.
Something like 15,000 tons of dif
ferent kinds of paper and -paper
board are manufactured every day in
the United States and a large propor
tion of this, after it has served its
purpose, states Secretary Redfield,
could be used over again in some clasg
}of paper. A large part of it, how
‘ever, is either burned or otherwise
wasted, This of course, has to be re
placed by new materials.
In the early history of the paper
industry, publicity was given to the
importance of saving rags, It is of
scarcely less importance now, says
‘Secretary Redfield. The Pepartment
of Commerce, he continues, is glad to
bring this matter to thé attention of
the public in the hope that practical
results may flow from it. A little at
‘tention, he states, will mean genuine
\relief to our paper industry and a
diminigshing drain upon sources of
supply for new material,
The Leader-Enterprise has been
communicated with, and a list of deal
ers in paper stocks can he obtained
from this office upon application.
