Respectfully yours,
WESLY R. WALKER
I am a candidate for the Lower
House of the General Assembly of
Georgia to succeed the present incum
bent, the Hon Wesley R. Walker.
My candidacy is not premised upon
any false conception of my own per
sonal worth, neither has my ear been
glued to the political greund in the
self-born hope that I might hear the
distant rumbling of the splendid pole
tarict welling to a tuneful call of a su
perior citizenry to have me lend them
presence in the actions, councils ané¢
reliberations of the States law-making
body.
There has been no such call,
My candicacy came into being just
forty-cight heurs ago, when some of
ilemocracys strongest county leaders
came to me and urged that I submit
my name to the people as represen
tative I yielded to these =olicitations,
not because they dove-tailed into my
owr personal ambitions—for twenty
frve yoars I have heen as shv of the
poltical limelight as a boy is of his
first sweetheart—but because I long
have been convinced that the clecte
rate of Ben Hill fairly deserves a ful
ler, broader, and more direct repre
sentation that that afforded by the
rresent and long-time holder of Ihis
signal position of trust and honor.
It is no small thing to ask the suf
frage of a great and prosperous poo
ple, but if I am elécted .to this high
post I pledge my-most sacred word
to represent you, the solid voters, and
not myself and a small ziccle of im
mediate intimates.
