RUN AGAINST HOKE
Macory Ga., May 6.—Savannah
friends of Judge Emory Speer
bore to the Macon convention a
challenge from the Republican
jurist to Senator Hoke Smith.
“You can tell Smith or Smith's
friends,” they quoted Judge Speer
as saying, “that if he introduces
that bill to retire Federal Judges
at 70 years I'll run him a race for
the Senate when his term expires.
And we'll see what the wool-hat
boys will do.”
Senator Smith was not at the
convention, but the Speer defi

GEORGIA SHY ON 3
~ PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS
Atlanta, Ga., May 6.—There's
very few things Georgia is shy on
but here’s one—certihed public
accountants. Right now this
state ils importing these experts
from foreign countries, particu
larly from Scotland. Chairman
Joel Hunter of the state board of
certiied accountants hag been so
advised. Chas. Neville, of Savan
nah, secretary of the Georgia so
ciety of Certified Public Account
ants, wrote him that several
chartered accountants have been
brought from Scotland to mcet
the demand for this service.
It looks like here is a good op
portunity for Georgians to equip
themselveg for this line of work.
The opportunity to stand the ex
amination and secure certificates
will be given at the meeting to be
held at the Ansley hotel in At
lanta May 17 and 18. This ex
amination will be conducted by
the members of the board includ
ing Joel Hunter, chairman, Attor
ney Hudson Moore, of Atlanta,
and R. W. Jemison, of Macon. It
is expected that a dozen or more
applicants will stand examina
tion, and to those who pass suc
cessfully, certificates will be is
sued by the governor.
It has been reported that among
the applicants for certificates at
the forthcoming examination, for
the first time since the board has
been organized, there will be a
woman accountant. The board
has been organized, there will be
a warm accountant. The board
hag not yet given this matter con
sideration, nor reached a decision
as to whether a certificate can be
issued, although there are wom
en certified accountants in other
states.
The state board, which has of
fices at 1006 Empire building, in
Atlanta, welcomes consultation
from young men desirous of
standing the examination.
