~HILL OPENED THIS MORNING

Cdunty’s rural. schools opened
Fall terms this morning and
‘a good attendance was noted in
the schools visited today by Dem
~onstration Agent Pittman and the
Editor of the Leader-Enterprise.
~ Ashton school, in chargé of
'J. Gordon Holt, opened/ with
about 130 pupils who paid close
attention to the outlines/of the
proppsed school farming fo be in
augurated at the schoof by Mr.
Pittman. The ground will be put
in shape at once and pperations
will be supervised dy fhe county
agent. The children pvere. given
the assurance of the cp-operation
of the Leader-Enterprise in the
school work for thdJ vear and
showed their appreciation for the
past efforts made for their school
by its management.
The next school visited was
the Cotton Mill school, where
Professor L. J. Poe, the.new
principal, introduced the edi
tor to the childrer” who brought
to them the promise of the own
ers of the Mill to co-operate
with the school and Mr. Pittman
to make the garden project'a pos
sibility around the Mill school.
Mr. Pittman forcibly impressed
upon the teacher and pupils the
value of school gardening and
asked for a meeting of the pa
trons of the school at/ an early
date to secure their ¢o-opeération
in protecting the wprk of the
ckildren around the gchool house.

Cozart, who is in charge of this
school, had all the children as
semble in the large assembly hall
on the second floor, where ad
dresses on the subject of better

by Messrs. Pittman and Gelders.
This school two years ago secured
the prize given by this -paper
for the best improved school
grounds and have promised to
make even a greater effort this
year. At the Roanoke school
Miss Rosa Lee Rogers and Prof.
B. F. Shuler are shaping the fu
ture of about fifty young Ameri
cans, bright and ambitious. The

Sheriff Fountain arrested Love
Vickers, Joe Arnold, Joe Horn
and Cleve Horn on a ‘warrant

robbery. Williams was invited
to accompany lLove Vickers, a
jitney driver, to a negro firolic
four miles west of the city, having
in his possesion $43.75 at ' the
time.

posed place of entertainment

when he returned to the city, be
came suspicious of his supposed
friend and proceeded to have him

Atlanta, Ga., Oct. 14—Arraign
ed yesterday before the Recorder
to explain the presence of 61 gal
ons of corn whisky in her apart
ment, Viola Gamble, a good-look
ing 19-year-old blond, claimed the
liquor was the property of two
men whose names she did not
know. \Vhen arrested for having
the whisky in her apartments, she
had told the officers it was her
personal property. The recorder
bound her over under a bond of
$lOO, and Clint Smith, who haul
ed the whisky to the place, was
also bound over.
