What An Important Meeting
Has Accomplished for Fitzgerald.
| The annual meeting of the stockholders of the First
National Bank, of Fitzgerald, was held in the director’s
room of that institution yesterday.%/ A large majority of
‘the capital stock was represented at the meeting, which
was harmonious, and to a certain extent entbusiastic.
The old board of Direclors were re-elected, and they
elected the following officers for the ensuing year: T. W,
Garbutt, President; M. W, Garbutt, Vice President; E.
K. Farmer, Vice-President and Cashicr; J. C. Haynes,
Asst, Cashier.
FIFTY PER : CENT. DIVIDEND. ;
The report of the cashier was most gratifying, prob
ably the best in the ‘five prosperous years of the'institu
tion, and on which a dividend of Fifty Per Cent. was
declared. :
CAPITALINCREASED TO $100,000.00.
The clamor for stock in the First National, by new
-comers, as well’as old citizens in Fi'zgerald [and vicinity,
including the stockholders’ithemselves, and a large in
crease of business, made it necessary.to increase the cap
itaUstock of this'most rzliable banking house to One{Hun
dred Thousand Dnollars, thus giving to Fitzgerald the
strongest financial institution between Macon and Savan
nah,
DEPOSITORS® SECURITY.
For the!lbenefit"and better security of those who de
posit their money in this _bank, the, directors coutracted
with the Banker’s Financing Co., which, under the con
tract, puts an emergency fund of’[s2oo,ooo 00 behind this
bank as a part of its foreign financial backing.
HALF MILLION BACKING. .
This company, and the regularly employed financial
agent, Mr. W, S. Witham, guarantees to this bank
a round Half Million! Dollars endorsement on its
transactions, thus making the First National Bank,
of Fitzgerald, the strongest financial linstitution in this
part of the state. This bauok is now able to handle ac
counts as large as any bank in the city of Atlanta or Sa
vannah, and its credit is as good in all financial centers of
the United States as any bank within the borders of this
imperial commounwealth. Fitzgerald bas a number of
good banks, all with par excellent credit in the money
centers, and the absolute confidence of home constituen
cies, but we are to be coogratulated that we have sucha
large capitaliz:d institution as the First National,
STOCK DISTRIBUTION.
The distribution of the new issue of stock is in the
hands of the President and Cashier, and will be propor
tioned to the best interest of all concerned. It could be
subscribed several times over by the present stockholders,
but it will be the policy to take in some new blood with
this new stock.
STATE DEPOSITORY.
The bank has recently been reappointed for a term of
four years as a state depository for this section of the
state, a confidence reposed by the Governor we all ap
preciate,
500 PER CENT. PROFIT IN FIVE YEARS.
The First National Bank is Fitzgerald's oldest, and
we might say original bank, having bought out and suc
ceed the private bank of Bauder & Bowen, a litile over
five years ago. Then it was a state bank, known as the
Merchants and Planters and since its organization (five
years) has made in dividends fivetimes its original captial.
FITZGERALD’S BANKS.
The true bistory of the evolution of F 1 zzerald’s bank
ing institutions reads more like the extravagant stories of
the Arabian Knights than the cold facts. Starting with
$10,000,00 less than six years ago, as the capital of a’ sole
private bank we now have four strong banking houses
with an aggregate captial and surplus of $240,000,00.
