As We Went Rambling.
(Continued from Previous Issues.)
Holiday fistivities and an un
usual rush of business in the
Enterprise shut off our rambling
We left our readers in, the com
pany of Buffalo Bill and family.
kThe trouble is he will not stay
with his family but cox\tinues his
? residence in Paris France, where
he is said to be in the thralldom
of one of the fascinating actres
‘ses of his Wild West Show while
his faithful wife—a genuine lady,
awaits at home the time when he
will become helpless and the
coming will not be long if he con
tinues to live at the pace that
kills. He has for years led a
tempestuous life. Often when
coming in from his scouting ex
peditions or his Show season he
would buy up the saloons of
North Platte, Nebraska, for the
night and turn them over to the
citizens. It was no unusual
thing for him to ride into the
saloon on his favorite charger.
Cody Post G. A, R. in western
Nebraska is named for him. He
presented the Post with a $5OO
flag., But the days of such friot
ing is over and Platte is a pretty
town with all modern improve
ments. The W.C. T.U. has a
“Rest Room” for farmer’s wives
and others to spend the hours
between shoppipg -and all ex
peases are borne by the busi-.
ness men of that town. - |
Since we began our “Ra.mbles”'
we learn that Uncle Sam’s offer;
of 640 acres for a homestead to
anyone who will live on it for
five years and improve it is being
rapidly taken up and many a
poor man at the end of five years
will find himself independent
with his land and cattle that
range upon his own domain.
As we can’t always tarry in
the prairies of Nebraska we will
now take up our line of march
for Denver, Colorado, over the
Union Pacific railroad that clim
bs upwerd six feet every mile :8
the trains carries us over vast
expanse of prairie dotted almost
continuously beside the railroad
track with big cattle and sheep
ranches each one supplied with
huge windmills to provide water
for the stock. v
The monster haystacks look
like mimature villages. Long
before we reach Denver the
grand old Rocky Mountains
loom up in the distance and we
begin to experernce a ‘‘Bolted in
feeling”’ in our breathing appra
tus. Our fingers feel as though
they were suddenly outgrowing
our gloves—indeed we feel con
siderable like a toy balloon that
is gradunally expanding—and all
due to the rarity of the air.
Denver, beautiful Denver, a
city set upon several hills and ly
ing in the shadow of the ever
lasting mountains. The next
day after our arrival in Denver
we unexpectedly stumbled upon
Mr. and Mrs. F. O. Messenger
formerly of this city. They
will be remembered by old
timers as putting up about one
of the first shacks on Main street
and that shack is today included
in the house on the corner of
Main and Pine street now owned
by Dr. White. Seven years ago
they sold the house to Prof.
Saunders and moved to Colarado.

dence property on Orange
street near Johnson avenue.

who are employed at Douglas,
came up and spent a week with
their families.
A brother of J. V. Evans of
this city has purchased a farm
near the suburbs of Fitzgerald
and will make it his home.
Mr. and Mrs. H. Bacon, of
Spencer, Ind., are guests at the
country residence of Capt. Mc-
Naught, who is Mrs. Bacon’s
grandfather.
_ Charles, little son of Judge W.
B. Moore, has carried his hand

Don’t back up against the post
office boxes and stay there until
you and your friend has your
visit has your visit out. Some
one may want to get their mail.
The postal clerks in this city}
are very proud of their five
rural route tables lately establ
ished in the postoffice which
greatly facilitate the handling of
mail going out to the adjacent
country.
Messrs T. S. Price, F. J.
Clark and J. H, Harris will soon
begin the erection of a three
story business block facing on
‘Main street and extending from
the corner of Central and Main
on down to the A. & B. depot.
Mrs. L. C. Fussell and three
children who have spent the
past eight months at Listonia
where Mr. Fussellis running
a sawmill, passed through here
on their way to their home in
Irwinville, on Saturday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Howder,
of Zion City, Ills., arrived this
morning and will spend the win
ter with their children in this
city. The warthy couple are old
timers in Fitzgerald and will
meet many warm friends while
here.
When driving around the
street corners keep your face
towards your horse. More than
once careless drivers have just
missed runing over footpassagers
because they were looking in
every diriction but ahead of
them, and that on a busy
thoroughfare.
The street committee has
greatly improved Jassmine street
from Maine to Pine street by
grading up and tiling at the cros
sings. More than once we have
been compelled to boldly wade in
at the crossing of Jassmine
when going down Main street
just after a heavy rain. The
current was so strong that good
sized boards were carrieq swiftly
on down the street.
