FITZGERALD, GEORGIA, TUESDAY, MAY 8, 1906,
THE EXTENSION
IS AUTHORIZED.
The directors of the Dublin
and Southwestern railroad have
voted to extend the road from
Eastman. ]
| The objective point has not
yet been named, but it is more
than probable that the exten
sion will be to Cordele, Abbevllle
Barrows Bluff or Garbutt’s land
ing.
If the road is built to Garbutts
landing, it will be for the pur
pose of reaching Fitzgerald over
the Garbutt railroad. Thisis a
lvery feasible route and itis en
!tirely within the bounds of posi
’billity that to Garbutt’s landing
‘the road will go. ‘
~ “Itlooks to me like Fitzger
ald,” said a Dublin man yester
day, who however, is not con=
nected with the Dublin and’
Southwestern road and is not on
the inside. “Ifl were in charg¢
of the affairs of the road,” said
he, ‘‘liwould build it from East-‘
man so as to connect with Gar
butt’s road. I believe the inter
ests of the road would be great
ly enhanced if Fitzgerald were
on the other end from Dublin.
The two best towns in south
Georgia woyld thus bubnk=ata
Fitzgerald at each end and East
man somewhere in the middle,
the Dublin and Southwestern
would bave nothing to fear to
the future. - In my opioion Fitz
gerald is the most feasible point
for D. &. S. W., and it would sur
prise me greatly if itjs not built
from Eastman to Gapputt’s land
ing.”
We are informed ty President
Rentz that the workdf surveying
the preliminary Jnes will be
commenced just @S soon as
a competent sSurveyor
caa be found. Irfact President
