r Quite a little flurry of excite
ment was caused yesterday by
}the firing of several pistol shots
in the center of the business
isection of the city. An investi
gation of the unusual occurance.
It appears that a negro prisoner
by the name of Gus Johnson,
alias "‘Gator,’”’ was being trans
ferred from the bastile to the
Mayor's office for trial upon the
heinous charge of purloining
$1.39 (marked down from $1.40)
from a dusky belle of the dark
town 400, when he suddenly re
membered that he had an engage
ment at Lulaville and started to
fill it. Officer Short objected to
being left in so unceremonious a
manner and in the struggle that
followed that officer’s weapon
was discharged several times,
but with no more serious result
than a sad fracture of the beer
laden atmosphere that hovers
over Pine street. “Gator” has
joined the zebra gang and will
assist Commissioner Hager for
several weeks in improving the
streets of Greater Fitzgerald.
There is talk around town
that the Hoke Smith menare not
registering. It is said that the
‘Howell men are being registered
by othler Howell men, but thata
Smith man gets registered when
‘he goes up and demands to reg
ister. Now, we want to ask
every Hoke Smith man in Crisp
county to form himself into a
committee of one and get him
self " registered. This is the
only way to break up ring rule. |
Make it your business to get{
registered yourself, and get
every other Smith man register
ed. If we do this Crisp county
will go for Hoke Smith by all
kinds of a majority.—Cordele
Rambler.
Mrs. J. W, Haygood, who has

D. B. Mull Withdraws From Race,
As the good citizens of Fiitzger
ald and Irwin have succeeded in
securing the new county of Ben
Hill I now withdraw from the
race for Treasurer of Irwin coun
ty. Feeling that it would be an
injustice to run in Irwin if I
could be elected. Thanking the
Irwin county people that promise
to vote for me, I will be a candi
date in Ben Hill county, for
Treasurer.
