PIG CLUB BOYS WILL HOLD
“COLLEQE PIG” CONTESTS
All boys in the county who cannot
secure registered pigs for the Pig
Club Contest should secure good
grade pigs weighing from sixty to sev
enty-five pounds and join the Go-To-
College Porker Club Contest. They
should secure their pigs by the mid
dle of April or first of May and feed
them until September 15th, or Oc
tober st., keeping accurate records as
to the weights of the pig and the
amount and kinds of feed fed them.
A pig to begin with of this type
should be bought for $4.00 or $5.00
and if properly grown out will, bring
in a co-operative sale from $30.00 to
$40.00 and stand a chance of winning a
prize from $2.50 to $lO.OO, When the
pigs are sold it is advisable to take
out enough money from the price re
ceived to buy another pig and enter a
similar contest to come off the follow
ing April and deposit the money in
the bank, save the cost of a pig each
time and in this way a boy will soon
have saved enough money to pay his
cxpenses in college for one or two
years. In thiss way any ambitious
boy desiring an education can secure
ietn ty:ithout\yemh ég‘st to his par-
Boys entering this kind of contest
will have ‘the same advantages in win
ning prizes as those in’ the Registered
Pig Club Contest. It does not differ
as to the sects of the pig although bar
rows are‘preferable as they are usual
ly the best feeders. I am real anx
ious to have one hundred boys in this
contest. Any boy wishing to enter
will please let me know as early as
ossible, | s :

Platform For Mayor
TO THE VOTERS
OF FITZGERALD: . 3
‘ln announcing 'my candidacy ‘for
mayor of the City of Fitzgerald I
am not unmindful of the grave prob
lems that confront our once prosper
ous and happy little city. 3
* For more than a month I have
realized that'the next mayor of the
City of Fitzgerald must serve an un
settled and disturbed people and that
every ounce of his manhood will be
tested many times.
This is not a day of petty political
trickery to get some smooth politic
ian into office; nor is it a time when
any proposition is to be handled
with fear or favor, we will work out
our own salvation only by getting
into the collar and doing the work
ourselves.” I have made up my mind
that every man is due his town, his
county and his state a service and
that if by giving every ounce of en
ergy there is in me to my people for
the next two years I could in my
humble way restore them only to hap
piness, ‘I will have fulfilled God’s
calling on earth.
It will be my purpose to ask your
support on a striccly PROGRES
‘SIVE PLATFORM. The laws of
the-land today are such that it is
‘not a question of personal preference,
‘but has the man the back bone to
‘enforce the laws. If you see fit to
clect me your mayor it wiil not be
said of me that he has not the morzl
courage to carry out the laws. :
. It shall be my purpose to try to
interest industries in coming to Fitz
gerald; I am a great believer in pay
rolls, each week and each month: it
‘will be my purpose to extend pav
ing, water and lights, where needed,i
thereby giving employment to many’
hundreds of peonle. Improve if not
build new, a first ward school build—(
ing. T would favor a public park that
would interest and entertain our
children, that would be a guarantee
against their being raised in the
streets. I would favor a school sys
tem, regardless of cost, that wou!d
make us all proud to say our boy or
girl graduated from Fitzgerald High
School. A man that would place a
low tariff for support on his school
is an undesirable citizen and I do
not want his support.
Any sensible man will fight to
keep taxes as low as possible. You
shall have low taxes if in my power
and you want them. Your tax rate:
you and your aldermen will carry
out. My observation is that any town
with no taxes to pay is a wide place
in the road, very\few people know
