PROPOSALS
For publishing, ly subscription, a icork to be
entitled
flora georgiensis.
IVTIIS will be, both a Grammer and Dictionery o(
B itany;—presenting, first, Vegetable Physiology,
and second, a minute and accurate description of eve
ry plant vet discovered in Georgia, together with its me
dic "dal or noxious properties—its English name—its
emblem, language, dec. Such a work is much needed,
a--.':- me, in our Southern Institutions. We have no
-e\' book m Botany, calculated to render the science
a tractive. Such as we have, are nothing more than a
few disconnected facts in Physiology, or a dry descrip
tion of a few leaves, roots, flowers. See., all tending to
excite disgust rather than taste. Students should, as
soon ns possible, be inducted into the practical part of
die science; it is that only, which can inspire them
widi enthusiasm in the prosecution of their reserches.
We have never known a profound botanist, made so,
by delving for months over pages treating of sap, albur
num. cambium, and the like. This work will teach
pupils, first, the names of the classes and orders in the
L.'inean system, the method of analysing flowers, and
proceeds next, to the examining, collecting and arrang
ing of them into an herbarium. A lore of the science
being thus tmjdanfed, it must and will increase, and
urge them on to further and further investigations
We intend that our work shall be, r t once, a text
book for schools—a pleasing companion for ladies in the
boudoir and saloon —a useful friend and companion for
gen lemen in their travels, their dailv rambles, See. Fi
nally, it will be enriched with every species of informa
tion which can render such a work entertaining and
instructive.
We solicit the assistance of scientific gentlemen
throughout the State, in furnishing us with information
concerning the names, locality and habits of plants, in
their immediate vicinity. Such information will be
gratefully and properly acknowledged.
Postmasters are requested to act as agents in receiv
ing and forwarding us subscriber’s names, as early as
the Ist November.
The work will contain from 500 to 700 pages, octavo,
and be furnished to subscribers, in boards at 85 per
copy. It will be issued during the next winter, provid
ed the number of subscribers warrant the expenso.
All Editors throughout the Southern States, friendly
to the diffusion of scientific knowledge, who will insert
this n nice, and forward us a copy of their paper, will
be entitled to one copy of the work.

Morton’s Pulmonic Expectorant Cough
Syrup,
For (%ighs, Colds, Asthmas, Consumptions and Whoop•
ing Coughs.
A MONG the numerous complaints with which the
ISL human family are aflictcd, none are more common
than coughs’ colds, &,c. and none more fatal in their re
sult®, unless timely care is taken to stop their progress
before they become too firmly seated upon the lungs.—
Notwithstanding the many remedies that have been of
fered to the public, not any have heretofore proved sue
ceessful in procuring a certain and speedy relief.
The proprieter having been an eye witness (for sever
al yeans) of the astonishing virtues of this extraordinary
Medicine, at length deems it his duty to offer it to the
public, in a way that it may receive a more extensive
circulation: and at a price that the poor may receive the
benefit of it as well as the rich.
Tliis syrup is particularly effieatious in removing
coughs arising cofds, attended with hoarseness and sore
ness abont the windpipe; likewise shortness of breath
ing, tightness acres the breaht, accompanied with a
tickling cough: and in all consumptive cases its use is
particularly recommended, likewise whooping cough is
greatly relieved by its use—children laboring under this
distressing disease, in innumerable instances have been
astonishingly benefi'.tedin a few days: the pleasentness
of it is a great advantage, as children will take it with
as mueh p'easure as they will preserves.
