of the diseased organs. It is useless to attach any cer

reputation and immense sale that has attended Dr.
Scudder s Eye W ater, is the fairest proof of its utility
and beneficial tendency ; it has been the means of
preserving sight to many of the afflicted, from the help
less infant to the aged parent. Thousands of letters
have been received by Dr. S. within these few years,
containing nattering remarks relative to this Eve Wa
ter—and the cures effected by it, have been set forth as
wonderful beyond precedent. Dr. Scudder confidently
recommends this Eye Water as a safe and valuable
remedy and he trust that his experience as an Occu

daily practised on the public by advertisements of dif

Morton’s Pulmonic Expectorant Cough
Syrup,
For Coughs, Colds, Asia mas, Consumptions and Wlloop
ing Coughs.
4 AIONG the numerous complaints with which the
1 human family are aflicted, none are more common
than coughs’ co!ds r Se e, and none more fatal in their re
suits, unless timely care is taken to stop their progress
before they become too firmly seated upon the lungs.
Notwithstanding the many remedies that have been of
fered to the public, not any have heretofore proved sue
ceessfu! in procuring a certain and speedy relief.
I he proprieter havingbeen an eve witness (for sever
al years) of the astonishing virtues of this extraordinary
Medicine, at length deems it his duty to offer it to the
public, in a way that it may receive a more extensive
circulation : and at a price that the poor may receive the
benefit of it as well as the rich.
This syrup is particularly etfleatious in removing
coughs arising corns, attended with hoarseness and sore”
ness about the windpipe; likewise shortness of breath
mm tightness acros the breaht, accompanied with a
tickling cough: and in all consumptive cases its use is
oarticularly recommended, likewise whooping cough is
rreatly relieved by its use—children laboring under this
distressing disease, in innumerable instances have been
astonishingly benefitted in a few days: the pleasentness
of it is a great advantage, as children will take it with
as much pleasure as they will preserves.

PROPOSALS
For publishing, by subscription, a work to be
entitled
FLOR a GEORGFENSIS;
will be, both a Grammer and Drctionery of
, Botany; —presenting, first, Vegetable Physiology,
and second, a minute and accurate description of eve
ry plant yet discovered in Georgia, together with its me
dia nial or noxious properties—its English name-its
emblem, language, &c. Such a work is much needed,
at tuis time, in our Southern Institutions. We have no
text book in Botany, calculated to render the science
attractive. Such as we have, are nothing more than a
few disconnected facts in Physiologv, or a dry descrif-'
tion of a few leaves, roots, flowers, (fee., all tending to
excite disgust rather than taste. Students should, as
soon as possible, be inducted into the practical part of
the science ; it is that only, which can inspire them
with enthusiasm in the prosecution of their reserehes
We have never known a profound botanist, made so,
by delving for months over pages treating of sap, albur
num, cambium, and the like. This work will teach
pupils, first, the names of the classes and orders in the
Linnean system, the method of analvsing flowers, and
proceeds next, to the examining, collecting and arrang
ing of them into an herbarium. A love of the science
being thus implanted, it must and will increase, and
urge them on to further and further investigations
We intend that our work shall be, at once, a t«t
book for schools—a pleasing companion for ladies in 1- 8
boudoir and saloon—a useful friend and companion for
gentlemen in their travels, their daily rambles, <fec. It*
nally, it will be enriched with every species of informa
tion which can render such a work entertaining an
instructive.
We solicit the assistance of scientific gentlenier
throughout the State, in (urriishing us with informatiot
concerning the names, locality and habits of plants,it
their immediate vicinity. Such information will bt
gratefully and properly acknowledged.
Postmasters are requested to act as agents in receiv
ing and forwarding us subscriber’s names, os early a*
the Ist November.
The work will contain from 500 to 700 pages, octave
and be furnished to subscribers, in boards at fspc :
copy. It will be issued during the next winter, provid
ed the number of subscribers warrant the expense.
All Editors throughout the Southern State?, friendly
to the diffusion of scientific knowledge, who will inset,
this notice, and forward us a copy of their paper, wil
be entitled to one copy of the work.
