OCT It gives us great pleasure to see such a host of
respectable names signed to the Resolutions, (com
mencing in the next column,) adopted some time
since by a number of the citizens of this County, in re
lation to the practice of Electioneering. And, we
hope, that every man who has signed them, will
strictly and rigidly adhere to them, that the end of the
resolutions may be obtained. The princip'e and prac
tice of Electioneering, by treating and giving Barbe
cues, and other similar means of obtaining votes, is
more destructive and ruinous to the spirit of our insti
tutions and the elective franchise, than a thousand par
ty broils. And our only wonder is, that as effective
means as the following, had not long ago been ernp'ov
ed to put a stop to this yearly increasing evil. \Ve
would iccoinmcttJ such a course to all the counties
that have not heretofore adopted a similar one. We
publish the whole proceedings at the request of the
Committee, to the exclusion of other matter intended
for our impression to-day.
New-York, August 1 2th, 1833.

R io'oel, T l it, as friends and fellow-citi

o i this melancholy occasion, with his bereave 1
parents and relatives, and regret that lie was
denie 1 in bis last m imeats, those soothing at
tentions, which parental a flection would have
administered, had it pleased Divine Providence
to have permitte I him before this mournful
event, to have retcheJ his parental roof.
Rcsoved, That we believe, and are happy
in expressing our belief, that in his last moments
he was cheered by the sympathy of friends,
who, though not so near and dear to him, were
prepared cheerfully to render, and did render,
his last, moments consolatory as could be
possible under the circumstances.
Resolved, That a committee be appointed

parents of the deceased, and express our heart
felt sympathy in this, the.r sudden bereave
ment.

The Central Committee, appointed at a meeting of
the citizens of Bib!* county, held lor the purpose of de
vising suitable means to suppress the present practice
of Electioneering, on the 22J June last, to receive, em
body. and publish the returns made by th? several dis
trict cominit'eis, report, that returns have hecn received
from them, with the exception of the committee ap
pointed for the Warrior District. The names of
314 individual have been subscribed to the pledges
contained in the resolutions of the meeting. From
some individual members of the committee, no returns
have been received where we understand that several
names have been subscribed to the proceedings. Should
they be returned, they wall be made public hereafter.
The committee would remark, that although the pro
ject has met with some opposition, yet they believe the
desired object has been accomplished—that this great
evil which has long corrupted and debased tha most
estimable privilege of a free people, has received a per
manent check by the exertions of our citizens.
THE COMMITTEE.
In accordance with the views of the meeting they re
quest the political o i of the proceedings in the several

Be it therefore Resolved, That we will support no
