Ho also telegraphed that his little son ecomod to bo somewhat better, and hopes aro entertained that thojlittle'fellow will roeovor. A Combat. A couple of Third street yonng gen tlemen had n muscular difference of opin ion, yesterday afternoon. Both main tained tho argument in a forcible man ner. until outside parties intefered and further argument was delayed until this njofning, when it will be concluded be fore the Mayor’s court. Netv Unrbrr Midp. Mr. Henry Schmidt lias opened a new barber shop in If off building, next door to tho Isaacs House. Ho has it thorough ly equipped with now furniture, and has in front the handsomest barber sign in Macon. Mr. Schmidt, for a number of year*, has been ono of Mr. Loh’s operat ives, and he is known to In a first-rate barber. to speak to everybody who lifted their hats to us on the way, it was not in ac cordance with our custom, bet beams-’ wc desired to feel sad do, for one brief while, as grand people feel and do. He Wander* Away Three Hlle* From ■•me. Mention was made yesterday morning of the fact that a little three jam old win of Mr. Charles A- Kendall, had wan dered away from home and was lost. It was very painful to think of the dan^-r-, the little fellow was likely to encounter about the city, and when up to daylight next morning no tidings of him ha-1 reached the ears of liis agonised mother, it was dreadful to think that he might haro wundCTitl aWh y ^ river. We are gla* ZJ] rv-nnee, however, that the child waa returned and sound to his mother yesterday morning, lie wam found Wednesday evening, on the Macon and Western railroad track, above the Laboratory, and fully three ynjlftg from his home. He went out and found the little fellow walking up and dqwn the track, crying, and in a state of perfect bewilderment. He took the child home with him and kept him dur ing tha night—the child being unable to give any account of himself. Yesterday morning Mr. Riley came to the city to seek tho parents of tho little wanderer. Of course ho had no trouble in finding them, and soon had the pleasure of re storing tho child to its overjoyed mother. It is fortunate that Mr. Riley heard the child's cries and went to its relief; for, in all probability, had he not done so, it would have remained upon the track un til a train came along ar-d perhaps crushed it to death. It- had been expected that a now lodge Of the Knight.4 of Pythias would be insti tute! in this city to-night, but owing to tho nhsonco of Colonel Davidson, Grand Chancellor, from tho State, tho institu tion had to bo postponed for a week. It will take place next Friday night, with briUiuit promise of being one of the most nourishing lodges in the country. Central City Park. The painters are giving an entirely new aspect to tho grand entrance to Con trol city park. The work of raising the bippodromo lias commenced. Several teams are en gaged in transporting it from the labora tory to the park, and Mr. Pettit is put ting it. up as fast os it arrives. The grans is being all cleared off th milo brack, and the track otherwise put in fine condition. The County Court. Spencer Hancock, colored, tried before Judge Weems yesterday on th charge of whipping Iris wife. He was found guilty and sentenced to pay a fin< of one hundred dollars anti costs, in de fault of which ho will serve eight months in the chain-gang. This is the same fellow who. some t ago, was acquitted of the charge of hav ing furnished Joe McCrary the gun with which he attempted to shoot the otti» who were seeking to arrest him. Patron* of Husbandry. Mr. E. Taylor, of Colaparelnv. will gnnire a grange of the Patrons of Hus bandry, in Rutland district to-day. Colonel Goo. W. Adams, of Forsyth, an active Patron, is in tho eity on his way to Jones county, to organize a grange. Wilkinson county now has seven granges. The seventh ono was organ ized at U'hito Oak Springs, on the 1st. instant. Mr. John P. Fort, master of a grange in this city has returned from a protract ed pleasure trip to the North. I.nrjrr Receipt*. Mr. Geo. W. Head, the day Iwfore yesterday, received two full car-loads of tobacco—probably the largest stock that 0ver reached Macon in one day. He has made excellent arrangements for keeping on hand as large a stock its is kept any where in the State. Mr, Gust in’s corps du pare are still at work upon tho parade ground, and are making an excellent job of it. They are also cuU-ng some new drives and prome nades from Floral Hall to the hippodrome. All the stumps on the grounds are being grubbed up. Messrs. Ellis A Cutter have a full bri gade of mechanics at work framing tho warehouse. It will be ready to raise in a few days. X Fox ( base. It is not often that city folks are re galed with such a spectacle as a fox chase through a business portion of the city; but such an event occurred here yester day. A genuine fox—lately escaped from the Third street menagerie—was seen rambling down an alley from Third to Fourth streets. Several gentlemen who do business in the cotton line, saw the game, and with many a whoop and halloo, louder than was over omitted by a pock of dogs, they began the chase, and never cmcc lost the trail until Reynard was a captive in the arms of one of the pursu ers. This chase w as not strictly confined to l«oys ; but youths of a larger growth entered upon it with the most enchanting fervor. X Pine Turn Oat. ytc enjojtd the luxury, last evening, of a ride. it. a fine new phaeton, belonging to Messrs. Heath A Porter, behind a spanking team of bays, rigged out in as hanu*otx\e suits of ham oof as was ever made in Macon. Tbe carriage is from the repository of Messrs. Collias A Little, the harness was manufactured by Messrs. W. L- Henry A Co., and the horses were only a fair sample of the many fine teams in Messrs. Heath A Porter’s stablss. It was a luxurious ride, tpd if we declined The Mayor's Court. His Honor, Alderman Cornell, found five names upon his register yesterday morning. Two were against parties for violating tho licenso ordinance, ono of which was continued, and tho other paid up without further colloquy. Ono young man was up upon the three- pronged charge of disorderly conduct, shooting in tho city and stealing. Tho last named charge was withdrawn from tho Mayor’s court and will be mode be- foro Judge Weems. A hearing of the other charges was postponed until to-day. Andrew Johnson, a colored galoot, was up on a double-barreled case of sliarp practice, which is likely to involve him in not less than a dozen months' service in tho chain gang. The circumstances are about as follows: Ho pulled off bis coat a day or two ago and gave it to a couple of other negroes, asking them to take it to a femalo colored pic vender and pawn it for some food for him. "When asked why he did not tako it himself, ho said he already owed the woman some thing, and ho did not want her to see him. The two men then took the coat, as requested, and “spouted” it for a forty cent luncheon, which Johnson received and ate. Having satisfied his appetite, tho rascally negro wanted his coat again, and in order to get it, ho had tho two men who served him, arrested on the charge of stealing the coat. Fortunately the men had witnesses sufficient to prove their part of tho transaction, and when tho officers had heard their statement and it* proof, they very properly turned tho , two men loo*) and arrested Johnson and lodged him in the barracks. Ho was tried yesterday morning and sentenced to pay a fine of ten dollars or to serve twenty days on tho street*. Upon tho heels of this charge came an other accusing Johnson of having stolon a watch and pistol from another negro. Of course ho denied tho “ soft impeach ment,” but when ho was lodged in the barracks, and bad had lima to meditate upon his felonious follies, ho called an fficcr to him, confessed the theft and told where tho watch and pistol could be found. Tho officer wcn~, to tho place designated, found the aitides and stored them to their 4-iwner. For this offense Johnson will have a liuarin, Judge Weems’ earliest cor.verience. diaries Holmes, colored, was arrested an accomplice of Johnson, in the steal ing of the watch and pistol; but as there not testimony enough to warrant his detention, he was discharged.
