Lawton, of tho firm of Law. ton A Bates, received a dispatch yester day morning from Shreveport, La.,'an nouncing tho death of hia brother, Capt. John M. Lawton, a victim of the yellow fever. Capt. Lawton was formerly a real iilcnt of this city, and a member of the firm of Fears, Lawton A Co. Ho was brother of Maj. B. F. Lawton, Cashier of tho Exchange Bank, and a nephew of Pol. IV. J. Hicks, now of Augusta, is in tho city, having come over to per form a marriage ceremony at the First Street Church lint night. Distribution of Flimrr Seed*, Messrs. Brown A Co. have put up a large number of very unit packages of variegated cockscomb ,-ieeil, whieh they are distributing gratuitously among their rnstnucr*. The reed are from a plant grown in Macon, mi l ono of tho finest ever grown here, the flower being a very large ono tuul lieautifolly variegated. Mr. Biin- Brown lias collected the seed with great can-, enclosed them in neat envelope packages and is giving them away to their customer*. We expect to seo many of these beautiful plants in Macon next season. I'linuarr of Mime. At the meeting of the Good Temp tars of Windsor Hill, last evening, they changed tho name of their Lodge from " Rose * to " I vena," by which it will hereafter Is- known. We also learn that the Lodge was regularly instituted by Deputy Harmon, assisted by Mr. J. H. Smith and others, under tho most favor able auspices. Twenty-six members have already enrolled their names, nrnon] whom are many of tho fairest daughter* of that locality. Mr. L. P. At eight o'cl-wk last evening, in the First Street Methodist Church, Mr. Jos. F. Dasher was married to Miss Emma H. Snow; Rer. W. W. Hicks, D. D., of August, officiated. This marriage wa3 itnossed by aa large an assemblage as could lie crowded into the. First Street Church. The happy couple left on tne eleven o’clock train for Atlanta on a bri dal excursion. A Ararrn Woman Probably Fatally ■ameff About seven o'clock last night a col ored woman in tho employ or Mr. James Harvey, who lives on Spring street, at tempted to kindle a fire with kerosene. She took a can of oil and poured some into the stove, when the whole exploded. The burning oil was scattered all over the woman, and very soon she was eaveloped a sheet of flames, and in this condition ran shrieking out of the house and up a neighboring alley. Her screams were terrific, and the negroes living near made no effort to relieve her, but on the con trary sought to get out her way. Mr. Alex. Blue, who livod near, heard tho cries of the woman, and seeing the condition ahe was in, Boixed a blanket from a bod, ran out and soon wrapped it around tho woman, extinguishing the Homos. But the poor woman was burned almost beyond all hope. The clothing was all burned from her, and some portions of lu-r person were fairly roasted. Dr. Iilackshoar wna culled to sco her, and did what care and skill could do for her relief; but ho has little hope that she will over recover. Tlie Bibb County Display *t the Ap proaching state Fair. There is no subject of more importance and interest that can bo presented to the attention of our citizens than tho display contemplated by the county of Bibb at the approaching State Fair.
