Tho club, named “Tho Lee Debate,” in honor of our beloved Confederate chief- ain, was organized but a few weeks linee; and yet it has grown so rapidly in interest and popularity, that its place of ting has been transferred from its hall to tho church, which at last meeting trial* of ponce ;ind a nor- | was almost filled with an intelligent audience of ladios and farmers. Tlu- in^.ndent tln-uglit five years would would The subject was one in which all felt an interest, and many came several miles to hear the discussion. Tho debate was long nnd the arguments forcible. The affirmative, "wo should adopt the no fence law,” was supported by Messrs. Joshua Boone. Gartenstoig and others, who very forcibly portrayed the pecuniary advantage that would accrue in conse quence of tho adoption of the law, by arguing that so much fence is unneces- sary, and the great«»t burden tho farrne has to bear; that it is a greater tax on than that imposed by the Bullock •nment—indeed, that his fences cost him more than the real worth of all -his raw-backed” hogs, and “hat-rack” cat tie, which he so highly prizes, and likes grazing on the commons, and on other men's premises. Also, that if pen our stock and raise our own manure, we would not have to purchase spurious fertilizers; that frequently, in order to get fifty acres of land for culti- n, one hundred acres must be fenced t an enormous cost; that the stock food left in the fields would prove to be of fer tilizing utility if left unmolested; that the most fertile patches might be selected for cultivation; and that if faimersper- _ t in continuing to practice the present rh and threugh I suicillal policy, their lands will, in a few , two and three I 7****, be stripped of timber, will be worn 1 out and worthless ; they, themselves, will become poorer and poorer every year; will die penniless, and leave their chil- Iren paupers and their country bankrupt. Th* negative, too, was made to wear a bright appearance by Mr. R. G. Hyman, Judge Cannon and others. The l»ttle boy Willie, who was the only one taken out alive, heard teams pasdngat intervals along the I delivery, road, but, partly covered as he was, his cries were too feeble to attract attention.
