The mouse ex- hibited "nae,** and dodging the taran tula, which tried to re** tin its former hold upon the mouse's neck, seized the spider in his teeth just as the latter fas tened his fanjM into his hack. The mouse sunk his tecta into the body of his foe, and blood spotted out quite freely. This was more than the tarantula had looked for, and vainly he trie/1 to shake the mouse off. After he had had his bite * out" another rent was taken. During the thr« * hours that they m in the liottle together about twenty rounds \v« re fought, in four of which the mouse bit the tarantula through the body. The bites of the spider did not seem to effect the mouse injuriously. When the last struggle ende/1, the tarantula retreated to his end of the bottle, keeled over upon his lack, and, after a few convulsive kicks, expired. The tarantula was over hauled after he died, and his fangs meas ured a little over a sixteenth of an inch in length. The mouse was as lively as ever yesterday morning, and when last s.t>n had succeeded in getting out of his prbon and wdh sitting on end, making a meal of something he had foraged.
