His Honor. Mayor Huff, had a quar

day morning, all of whom were swung

The first entry was G. W. Saddler and
Richard Morris, both colored, who were
charged with fighting. Their statement
went to show that they had a hui* play
together, about o'clock at night, and
Morris struck SaSller over the hoad with
a bottle, inflicting a severe cut at the
northeast corner of his forehead. Saddler
said he loved Dick better*n he loved any
of his brothers, and Dick was sorry*rn he
wad that he was that he struck him.
The Mayor thought it was rather late in
the night for such jolly plays to be tak
ing place, an U therefore, fined each of
them two dollar*.
Gas Wayman, colored, says he haa
been behaving himself for two or three
years, and has not stolen anything in four
or five years. But he whipped a smaller

from another prisoner in the barracks

The exercises of this institution will
be rt'suun'd next Monday. The prospects
are that n large number of pupils will be
in attendance. Taken altogether the
prospects of the college were* never so
promising. Its position as on educator
of young ladies is us high as any in the
ooantiy, and we are glad to know that it
is coming to he acknowledged throughout
the country.
Moamvi is very proud of this institution |
and the people will always be glad to
know that it isyrotperoua. Some of the |
brightest 'rnamenrs of our society are
gm iua* < of this institution, and we
have no doubt that many more are to be
trained therein. We hoj>e to realixe the
hope that the present year will be the
movt smveasful in the entire history of
to Mr. A. T. Calhon at $395, and tho
fniit and confectionery privilege to Mr.
Alex. H. Stephens for $-100. Tho prir-
lego of selling notions was not sold—
there being no bidders. The city bid in
tho forage master privilege at fifty dpl-
lars.
Tho aggregate amount of these rentals
is $3,725, which is considerably more than
could have been reasonably hoped. It
shows, however, that tho people here ore
very earnest about the Fair, and have
high hopes of ita being a grand success.
There is no mistaking the sentiment of
people upon tho subject. They aro fully
aroused and are bending every energy in
that ono direction. They suffer nothing
to relax their ardor, nothing to restrain
their activity, but all classes, male and
female, aro bent upon making tho fair
one that will bo a credit to tho Empire
Stnto of the South.
’Mayor Huff concludod arrangements
yesterday evening, with Mr. A. Haight^
proprietor of tho Great Eastern circus,
by which that immense establishment
will bo on tho grounds every day during
tho fair. Mr. Haight offered Mayor
Huff one thousand dollars a day for tho
privilege of showing outside tho enclose-
ure, immediately in front of the grand
entranco, but the Mayor declined the
offer, and made arrangements for the
show on tho inside. Three performances
will bo given every day—forenoon, after
noon and night. Haight lias the most

Fertilizing Compound!
This fertilizer 13 as^iin offered to the
public in its original purity. The stand
ard haa been kept up in every respect
and its intrinsic value has again been
demonstrated during the past summer.
It is recommended, because;
“It is permanent in its effects in return
ing to the soil the fertilizing ingredients
taken from it by excessive cropping.
“It gives to cotton the food necessary
to sustain life while fruiting, therefore,
what is called rust seldom occurs where
this fertilizer is used.
“It is the best restorer of worn out
lands known to agricultural chemistry.
“Its effects are immediate in the pro
duction of large returns the first season.
“It is good for all crops, on any soil,
being pure unadulterated plant-food.
“It is as good as tbe best, and is the
least expensive of any known good fertil
izer.
“It is manufactured at the South and
almost entirely of Southern materiaL
It utilizes tho ammonia found on
every farm which is the most expensive
part of all complete fertilizers.”
Wo subjoin a few of the many certifi
cates in our possession, as to its value,
from well known parties who have used
it, and to whom we would refer.
