THE MACON TELEGRAPH: SATURDAY MORNING, JULY 14, 1894. A DAY’S DOINGS IN GEORGIA TOWNS A Batch of Bright Items Furnished by the Telegraph’s Hustling Correspondents ATLANTA AND FLORIDA RAILROAD Th. PmjiIs Alu( the Lie* An Veil of JlrJolelngThat the Hoad feOeSvf lht Itaeds of » llecalver— Other Slat* Saw* Fort Valley, July 13.—{Special.)— When U waa roportetl here that the Atlanta and Florida railway had been plaoed a second 'time in the hands of a receiver It was deeply regretted by every one who shipped fruits or re* celved shipments In largo quantities, as this road Is of untold benuflt to the shippers of this section by causing prompt shipments of perishable freight, as well os The means of re ducing rates from all points In tho North and Bast. Since the claims against tbs road have been settled, and It Is once again on Us feet .ready for business, the shippers here are Ju bilant and will give the road more shipments In consequence or their suc cessful struggle to free Itself from the bands of the court, which was accom plished in less than three days after the second rooelver was appointed, ffhia shows the financial ability of tha owners of this road, as well as the executive ability of the general mana ger, dipt. T. W. Garrett, -who has dons jiotilo work In not only keeping up his road bed, but by Inducing set tlers along Hal Ine, while MaJ. it. M. OottJOfhatn, the general freight und passenger agent, has not iei sny freight that could be secured go by any other road eaoept the Atlanta end Florida. In short trip oyer a portion 'of this road lilts week your correepoudn.it was more favorably Impressed with Us ad vantages then ever before. The people along Us entire lln« seem to vie wrth each other to sec who can treat stran gers and proepeotora with the most courtesy, and at every station tho stranger la gladly weloumcd. while tiho ortlcluiH of Uio road do everything in their power to accommodate those wno am seeking homes along Us line. At Oullodcn I saw-parties who antic 1 - pared erecting a lurge ginnery, nnd they wanted an acre of land In a cer tain place to build on. Tho owner of the land, Mr. W. n. Davis, kiici* the turtles did not want any land but this particular acre and could have in creased tho price tf he had not been fa vorable to new eqteTprlses for his town. Hut when they wont to him to bargidn for the hind be told them to get Ills father, the father of the buyer, let them call in a third man, set tho price and take U at the prloo the ar bitrating committee agreed upon. This was uil done within half an hour, nnd eo impressed mo with the cleverness, as well as the anglety of Mr.- Davis to secure now enterprises for his town that X mads note of It, which cannot be obliterated from my mini. If that case bad come up In a place not a thousand muon from here U would have taken aa much to tiny I he land as It would have oost to put up an Im proved ginning plant. . Phis instance snows how clearer nil the . 52)* •*» “lorn* this line At road und how anxious they aro to secure enterprises that will benefit their towns und section. If such a spirit prevailed throughout Georgia and the Mouth what n glorious country we Would soon have. It would be filled with the best and most progressive people that this great world Affords; I have long been Interest,si in the proper kind of Immi gration for our state, and when I sea people who show hy their actions that they are Interested In Ilia proper kind of Immigration for our stats and will ing to lend a helping hand In the en terprise j wont the world to know It. Again, the section through which the Atlanta and Florida railroad tu-sea Is J.!”' heal I blest In thu whole Houth. There Is no malaria, no cause for any local disease whntever; It has the t>est water In the stale, all km.la of fruit, truck and geld crops grow to perfection and It la the tinea! peach and grape laad In the state. Hy the time this road secure* connec tion at this place with the road that Is now biting constructed from the coast to this |allot there will be more flrst-rlnas happy Northern settlers along Hs line fceewWh Fori Valley and Atlanta than on any road In Georgia, and the Atlanta and Florida railway will have tt looal tnidliuvni sufficient to make the read not only volf-suetainfim’' but will pay the owners a handsome dividend on [heir internments.
