There was a big audience present to hour 'them, and both gen tlemen made eloquent speeches and were loudly applauded by their friends. It is bard to say Wow the race IS going In 'this county, but the ohancea seem do be slightly In favor of Judge AtoWihorter. In this district Judge Lawson has the ad vantage up to Mils time, (tie Is well in the lead, bat McfWhUrter'e friends appear to be confident in at ue will owfcn up and got the sixteen votes nucurtury io nominate hum in tne tnn- ITeasiibmil convention. There were two meetings held here Saturday night; one addressed by Capt. H. 11. Carlton in favor of Law- son and another by Messrs. W.**B. liurneiii, H. O. Tuck atid G. C. Thomas. Much enthusiasm was mani fested at both meetings. It Is said than Judge Lawson's friends will start a campaign daily pa per here shortly. LIVINGSTON AND CANDLER. ffhey Had a Hough nod Tumble De bate in Atlanta Last Night. Atlanta, July 16.—(Special.)—The Llv- InKHton-C-uxiko c^mki "MiuihI Jmnt di bble at tho opera house tonight was a Punch nnd Judy show. The audience which packed tho opera house went out to Bc^-somo fun. and when tho Hpcnk- •'I’M didn't touch ihe inatU Uu* crowd Jollied them up and then took charge of the thing themselves. It was a giAul Matured crowd, hut not at all respect ful or considerate of the footings of the rival candidate*. Livingston was tho special target of tho hoodlum element, though ho evidently had a majority of the whole audience. Col. Candler opened the debate in an hour’s speech and concluded In fifteen minutes, lie devoted most of his .time to showing up Llvlngston'a trickery to tile Dembcratlo party nnd his friendship to Jerry Simpson, Weaver ami Mrs. Lenne. lie claimed that Livingston was not a fit Democrat to lead the party ih this district—no Democrat nt all. In fact. Ho had advocated the torch nnd dag ger In 1R91 a» a sub-treasuryIte nnd Ocallte. and 'was In fact n mongrri hy brid’politician with i\p sex and no f ilth to man or any party. Mrs. Lease, Col. Candler said,.was a female chameleon. Livingston sat on tho Blag** with his striped Bocks showing half way up to Ills knee. Home one In the erbwd yelled out: "Make hint pull his socks off; Jerry didn't wear any." Livingston, who couldn't be heard half tho I lino, defended his record ns a Dem ocrat. 11c said Candler lnd always Voted against Democratic measures In congress and had stumped tho state ngnlnst Colquitt. He was on record us always against silver and for a con traction of the currency, having cast five votes that way. He attacked the Atlanta Journal for printing the Populist dally In Its office. The Journal cartooned him ami at the haiuo time cartooned and ridiculed .Pres ident Cleveland In tho PopuMst paper for n few pieces of money. He wanted to know why the Journal didn't fight Gordon for being an Allt- nneeman. Candler, he said, voted against the Democratic Interests when the Hays Tllden electoral commission was counted. Livingston was constantly Interrupt ed by hoots and Jeers, All sorts of questions fired at him and ridi cule’amounting to insult heaped upon him as a man and Democrat. The election Wednesday will be hot, but Livingston will probably win. EVERETT OUT OF THE RACE. J3e Withdraws ft ml Judge J. W. Mad dox Wifi Have No Opposition for Oongrf. Rome, July 16.—Judge J, W.
