The Macon Light Infantry had their
annual celebration at Beech Haven yes
terday. It we* a basket picnic this year
and the company and their friends
had one of the most enjoyable trips in
the whole history of this line organiza
tion.
Although the weather in the early
morning woe threatening, rain having
set in several hours before the time for
zlie train to leave, those who had re
celved invitation to attend knew what
to expect ami braved the rain.
Tho train pulled out from the Union
depot at about H o'clock with a party of
about 100. n large number of whom were
the special lady friends of the aoldlere.
Capt. Albert Junes was In command of
uboijt thirty men and the boys looked
natty and handsome when they march
ed Into the Union depot.
Arrived at Beech Haven, the ladles
went to work to spread one of those
dinners that ars characteristic of the
Light Infantry's sponsors, uiothors and
slaters, whlle'lhe soldiers went out to
shoot fbr the handsome medal oltoral
for tho best shot. Thu shoot lasted
about an hour and a half and I'rlvulo
|W. It. Bllllck cams out winner by a
score of 12 out of s possible 15. He Ui
unite a company murksman and this is
not his met good shooung. Capt. Al
bert Junes presented Mr. Ulttlck with
file medal in a few complimentary re
marks.
The entire ofternUbn was given over
fo dancing. The pavilion was a scene
of such gayety us Is to be seen only on
rare occasions, and this wae one of

Ordinary Wiley received a letter from
Superintendent Powell of the State Lu.
natlc Asylum saying that Mr*. Cather
ine McDonald, who was sent from this
county to the asylum In 1885 had diet!
and would be given a Christian burial
at the asylum.

to notify Mra McDonald's relatives It

sioner John MoCluve sent hla resigna
tion to Maytor Qllroy this afternoon.
The letter Is dated Port Chester, July
14. McClave said:
"I am advised by my physicians, Drs.
Hamilton and Jones, that my condition
demands Immediate ccaaatlon of all la
bor, public or private, and absolute real

pelled to offer you my resignation as
police commissioner.”
