Until What Started Out as a Moonshine Case Developed Into an At tempted Impeachment Before You Start to clean the paints, wash tho windows, or scrub the flooi, put a little OF THE TESTIMONY OF A DEPUTY Powder A small moonshine case In the United States court, yesterday that was not larger than a man's hand when It started cams near having a sensa tional ending, and would undoubtedly have resulted in a termination unusual for this quiet tribunal had all Interest ed not had cool heads. The case around which this Interest centres was that of the government against Joe Holloway. Holloway Is n negro who was charged with running t.nd working tn an Illicit dlstlKery, nnd was represented by Col. J. W. l’reston. Gariy In' the course of taking testi mony It became evident tha't there was to be a stubborn fight. Col. Pres ton Is one of the most extensive fed eral court practitioners In this dis trict andi-has had fine, success in hla practice. After neatly all 'the evidence was in and 'the oase was almost really lo go to the Jury a stir was created io court when CM. Preston announced that he would attempt to Impeach tho' testimony of Mr. Geo'nge White, the deputy marshal who arrested Hallo- way upon a warrant issued from the commissioner’s court. Col. Preston called upon the witness stand a man by tho name of Joe Crubbs. Grubbs 'has been up before the commissioner charged with work ing In the suite still that got Hallo- v.ay Into 'trouble. The attorney en deavored to prove by Grubbs that IWhite 'had told him that he and Dep uty Marshal Kelly were often forced to swear to a lie In the commissioner's court to secure their prisoners oon- victlon. This put things in a decided hum. A good deal of feeling was evidenced und everybody began, thinking "what next?” MaJ. Gary, the district attor ney, got up. and with his characteristic in the water, and see what magical effect ithasonthedirt;see how much labor it saves you; see ' how little it costs hi comparison with, other washing compounds.
