For further Informa tion call on Atlanta, July 21.—(Special.)—It Is more than a week yet until the state conven tion meets, but already Indications are beginning to manifest themselves which show that it will be one of f the biggest political gatherings old Georgia has held in years:' All the prominent counties will bo rep resented by delegations ranging in num bers from ten to fifty. Interest in poll* tics has not been so high since the ante bellura days and the reconstruction pe- rled. Well known people from all sec tions of the state agree in tills estimate of the popular pulse, and the state con vention is expected to be taken advant age of for a big demonstration. Ordinarily a state convention without a contest between favorites, such os this one will be, would not attract very deep Interest, but absence of a contest between candidates only serves to concentrate at tention on other matters to come berore the convention. There is no denying the fact that indications point to a lively light over the platform and resolutions. Georgia la divided on the financial ques tion. There are many who, think Mr. Cleveland's intenpretatlon of tho platform and the work of the administration in carrying out these pledges should be indorsed by tho party of Georgia in con vention, while it is pretty certain that this will bo fought by a strong faction who are Inimical to the administration and to Its Interpretation of the platform. On this question there Is every Indica tion that there will be warm contention, but the opinion gathered from party lead ers from all parts of the state Is that the administration and its reading of tne platform will win In the convention. This prediction is made dally here by men close* in touch wltn the peopjo of the state. The work of the convention will very probably be done In one day. A movement is being worked up nowf or a great Demo cratic meeting on tho night of the con vention, with the leading men of the various sections of the state ns speakers. Col. W. Y. Atkinson, who will be the nominee for governor, will have a Bpeclal train load of people from Newnon, his home. His headquarters will be at the KtenbaU house, having already been as signed. Delegations from several other Cities, Including Macon. and Columbus, have already secured their quarters at the Kimball, and applications for afeom- inodations are being received daily by other hotels, indicating that a big crowd Will attend the convention. The railroads will nil sell tickets at one-third rate for the round trip. j SALE OF HISTORIC FURNISHINGS Atlanta, July 24.—Special*)-*Col. John McIntosh Kell, adjutant-general and Keep er of public buildings and grounds ior tne state, auctioned off some historic old furnishings on the capito! steps today. Among the stuff sold were the carets of tho executive mansion used during tho Gordon administration, v tho parlor carpets and tho "blue room carpet," tiio latter being bought during Governor tiol- quiett'B term. An old mahogany chair, tho only relic of tho Bullock regime in the way of fumlturo remaining, was also sold, together with the chandalfer that first did service In the executive man sion. All tho articles brought nominal prices. The last legislature appropriated JT*.000 to refurnish the governor’s man sion, and of course this old Btult was no longer needed. TAX DIGESTS RECEIVED.
