A party of the *ood people of East

It was made up among them that a lit

the feature of a select gathering nt the
Indian mound, with a keg or two of
beer along Just to give llavor to tho
meeting.
According to agreement, the boys
went over after supper to have o quiet,
orderly time all to themselves. Before
the feeUvttlea of the evening had got
under fair headway a freight train
came along. The homes drawing the
dray that carried the beer became
frightened at the train and stampeded.
One or two other hones Joined In the
runaway and very soon things got
lively. .
Right In the midst of the greatest ex-
citment some one. presumably a brake-
man on toD of tho ear*, began firing
bis plitol Into the .excited crowd. One
of the ahot* strucld a beer glass In the
hands of a young man and went
through the tail of Mr. Rad Evers'
coat. Tha miscreant never stopped un
til he had flrel every chamber of his
pistol. Happily ftjr him. the train bore
him safely on from without the re
vengeful crowd's reach, else he would
hare fared badly at their hands
After the excitement of the moment
had somewhat quieted down the boys
rallied around the flag of true East Ma
con Democracy and had their Joyoua
meeting and plenty of beer and good
thing* to eat. too. Stirring speeches
were made by Messrs. George Lump
kin. Newt Fraser. Ed English, Rad
Evem, Will ObUins and others. It is
hard to keep a working man down, and
this applies significantly to the true
blue Democrats of East Macon.
