TOM COBB REFUTES THE CHARGE Atlanta, Aug. 7.—(Special.)—One of the trump cards which Judge Hines and Col. Tom Watson are playing in their campaign (a the claim that the men who were for Gen. Evans, espe cially the old soldier, are refusing to rally.to the support of Mr. Atkinson. In refutation of the claim, which everyone Who knows anything at all about the situation, knows it to be a He made out of the whole cloth, Mr. T. R. R. Cobb, one of Gen. Evana' moat ardent friends arid active worker, has written the following card to the public: "I notice that Judge James K. Hines, the Populist nominee for governor, in h1s speech, asserted that the Evans men are leaving the Democratic party to support him. He cannot prove itl The men who followed Gen. Evans ore as loyal Democrats as any In Geor gia. It is an injustice to Gen. Evans and Ms staunch and many followers for Judge (Hines to make -such a state ment. When Gen. Evans withdrew from the race I, as his friend and sup porter, tendered my services to the Democratic party, and the day after received a warm letter from him, con gratulating me on my fidelity to De mocracy and endorsing the step I hnd taken In offering my humblest services to the greatest party in the Union. Why does Judge Hines insinuate that the Evans men will be untrue to De mocracy? His partner at law and per sonal friend, the Hon. Thomas B. Fel der, than whom no truer Democrat lives, and no more effective and ardent Evans man worked In the recent cam paign, avowing on the stump he would support and work for Mr. Atkinson, and will prove his words by opposing Judge Hines to the best of his splendid ability. The Evans men entered the Democratic primary In good faith, and When Gen. Evans withdrew, for the sake of party harmony, every honest Ladies’ Cotton "Wrappers,Waists, Boys Clothing, Umbrellas, Parasols Dress Goods and Wash. Fabrics. If 'Mr. Atkinson had been de feated In Che Democratic primary, knowing his friends as I do. I know they would have-rallied to the Demo cratic banner, aa Evans’ friends are doing now, and bring up a greater ma jority than that which met Peek when Northen was mode governor. "I believe every honest Evans Dem ocrat will support W. Y. Atkinson. "Thomas R. R. Cobb." WEEKLY CROP BULLETIN. Atlanta, Aug. 7. —(Special.)— Tho weekly crop bulletin of the Georgia weather department Issued today shows a gratifying Improvement In the con dition bt all kinds of crops In every part of the state. The continuous rains have brought up the weeds In great profusion and tho farmers arc having considerable trouble on this account, especially In the western ptrt of tho state. It Is entlniated that the corn crop this year will be the largest Georgia lias made In many years. Cotton Is growing well everywhere, a tendency to go too much to weed being the only cmbanuwsmcnt. Sunshine Is now what Is needed. In western Geor gia, the report says, the continued wet weather has begun to rot cotton. Some rust is reported In the central coun ties and some complaints rf excessive rains come from the eastern counties. In the southwestern counties there is a steady Improvement In cotton, but In tho southern part of the state tho wet ness has the djtton looking spotted and yellow. Farmers tie looking a lit tle blue, but a little sunshine would Htrslghtcn tho crop out all right. The state agricultural department also issues Its monthly bulletin today. It reports cotton In about tho same condition as seen by the weather bu reau. Everywhere the complaint Is too much rain und the cry for more sun shine. COL. D. B. HAMILTON ARRESTED.
