NEW MEMBERS ELECTED.
The Amerson boys are safely lodged in
the Bibb county Jail. Sheriff Sam West-
cott brought them over from Alabama,
last night.
El berry and Andrew Amerson on July u.
It Is charged, assaulted John Sanders to
front of Brannon’s bar In South Macon,
Inflicting Injuries from which he died.
The young men Bed to Taylor county,
tire place of their residence up to the
lime they came to Macon. By tne as
sistance of friends and relatives they
mruiuged to frustrate all the efforts of
onerlff Westcott to effect their capture.
just a week ago they concluded to leave
their Taylor county hiding places and
make their way out of the state. They
did this successfully, but they did not
get very far uwa7- A couple of days
ago they were focated In Phoenix City,
Ala., one of the trans-Chattahoochee sub-
urbe of Columbus, and Sheriff Westcott
was at once (pformed of their presence.
He telegraphed to the Alabama authorl-
des, and at his request the young men
were captured and held. Col. Westcott,
accompanied by Deputy Mlllirons, went
over to Phoenix City yesterday morning
and secured his prisoners, returning with
them yesterday afternoon on the train
arriving from Columbus at 7:15.
They took rffelr arrest very quietly and
waived the preaence of requisition papers
which would have been necesaaxy to have
gotten them from Alabama. Roth tola
Sheriff Westcott thtet They were rather
glad than otherwise that they had been
captured, as they were tired of being
fugitives from the larvr.
The trip over from Columbus was de
void of Interesting features until Rey
nolds was reached. Here the father of
the boys and a dozen or so of their friends
were present when the train arrived. They
crowded InCb the smoking car and shook
hands with the prisoners and offered them
words of cheer.
Tho next Interruption was at the Junc
tion. Kero a great crowd was present,
nnd as soon as the train stopped they
boarded It and crowded the smoking car.
There was considerable confusion, and
one of the prisoners requested that the
orowd be cleared out. This was done as
well os It could be, but It was effective
only for' a moment. Among those pres
ent was a brother of the prisoners. Col.
Westcoft had to order him out of the car.
When the train arrived at the shed
there was at least a hundred people pres
ent, anxious to catch a glimpse of the
men. A big proportion of them followed
the sheriff to the Jail.
Acting under advice of counsel, the pris
oners' declined last night to make any
statement in regard to the crime of which
they are charged.
STORY OF THE CRIME.
The story of the crime with which the
boys are charged la so uncertain in detail
that no satisfactory verdort or It - haf
yet been brought to light.
The coroner’s inquest held over the dead
body of the victim two weeks nfter the
murder succeeded only In inducing enough
evidence to warrant a verdict of murder,
and under that charge they now await
trial In BIM> county Jail.
On the morning of July 34, Andrew and
Elberry Amerson had a difficulty with
old man Sanders out at Brannon’s bar,
In South ‘Mneon. In which the iatter was
so badly Injured by a knife In the hands
of one otf the boys that he died from
the effect of a stab »n the temple. He
died early Sunday mffrnlng.
According to the best source of In
formation regarding the unfortunate af
fair, old miff Sanders went to Brannon'a
