After many month* of dissension,
dissatisfaction, turmoil and strife all is
serene at Gullfield Primitive Baptist
ohurch, and Rev. A. C. Clarke and
his flock will hold their uninterrupted
servloes there today.
The publio Is familiar wltfi the pecu
liar division of .this church several
months ago and of the subsequent trial
In the superior oourt. It will be re
membered that the trial developed
more ludlorous testimony than was
ever heard at the court house before,
and the queer religious beliefs of some
of the members were a revelation to
those present at the trial. One faotlon,
those under the leadership of 'A. F. T,
Bearcy and York Myrlck, were desig
nated as the one-seed faction, and the
other faction, or thoso under the leader-
ershlp of A. <J. Clark, pastor, and Dea
cons Alex Humphries, Dave McNeal
and Berry Hall, were designated as
the two-seed faction. Just what the
distinction -was <y what each believed
was never made clear, but on the wit
ness stand several witnesses testified
that they believed God made every,
thing human and divine, natural and
unnatural, including the devil, over
whom he had the utmost power. They
also said they believed that God's
stomach was tilled with railroad Iron,
crossties, hand spikes, hell (Ire and
damnation and that he spewed them
out of hls mouth at will. The two-seed
faction claimed that they knew noth
ing of the things believed by the ono-
aeed faction, anil unit ilielr belief was
simply that God was soverlgn over all.
Both skies were represented by able
attorneys, and the decision of the court
was given In favor of Clark's faotlon,
and the other faction enjoined from In
terfering. Several other Injunctions
were sued out, which finally resulted
In one faotlon using the church In the
morning and the other at night. My-
rlck’s faction appealed the case to the
supreme oourt, and yesterday that
court affirmed (the decision of the oourt
below.
Thla decision puts Clark and hts fac-
tlon In charge, and last night they were
about the happiest set of darkles In the
city.
Gullfield church belongs to the Primi
tive Baptist Association, which extends
into North Carolina, Tennessee, Mis
