The lightning that came along with
the thunderstorm yesterday afternoon
got in some right livey pranks while
the atonm rested over the city. It was
an unusually covere thunderstorm and
came near working some serious dam*
age here. m
The house of Mr. Cain in Eost Macon
was stritek about noon. Almost the
entire roof was 'torn off. the furniture,
k Is said, -was split up and had not nil
the family been away from home fatal
results would certainly have followed.
As it happened, under the direction
of providence Mr. Gain and his entire
family were uway from the house. His
little daughter had only been gone a
/very f«w minutes when the vloentfluid
descended upon the house.
Neighbors, when they realized that
the Coin house had been struck, rushed
there expecting to And that some of

PROCLAMATION
To Amend Sections of the Constitution
of the State of Georgta.
Executive Department, Atlanta, Os.,
July 28, 189*.—Whereas, The general
lusemlriy of Georgia, at rhe session of
1893, passed the following three (3) acts
to mend the constitution of Che state,
to-wit:
No. 1M
An act to amend paragraph 1 of sec
tion 2 of article 6 of tb. constitution
of this shits, hum Increase the
number of judge, of tb* supreme
court of thl, state from three to five,
to consist of a chief Justice and four
associate Justices.
Section 1. lie it enacted toy Che gen
eral anoembly of the sUte of Georgia,
and It Is hereby pa acted by authority
of the same, that the constitution of the
state be amended by adding after the
words “chief Justice” In the second
line of the first paragrapn of section 2,
article • thereof the words "and four
associate Justices,” In heu of the words
In said line, “and two uesoolate Jus
tices,” so that said paragraph when
amended ahull read: “The supreme
court shall consist of a chief Justice
and four associate Justices. A majority
of the court shall constitute a quo
rum." | .
Sec. 2. Be It further enacted, Thai
whenever the above proposed amend
ment to the constitution ahull be agreed
to by two-th1rds of the member, elect
ed to each of the two houses of the
general assembly, the governor shall,
and he Is hereby outhorlxed and in
structed to cause said amendment to
be published in at least two newspa
pers in each congressional district in
this state for the period of two months
next precoding the time of holding the
next general election.
Bsc. 2. Be it further enacted, That
the above proposed amendment shull
be submitted for ratification or rejec
tion to the electors of this state at the
next general election to be held after
publication, as provided for In he sec
ond section of this uct, In the several
election districts of this stole, at which
election every person ehall be qualified
to vote who Is entitled to vote for mem
bers of the general assembly. All per
sons voting at said’ election in favor
of adopting the proposed umendmen-t
to the constitution shall have printed

1877 by striking out the word "Oc-

and substituting therefor the word
"July," and the manner o* submit
ting the same, and for other pur
poses.
Section 1. Be It enacted by the gen
eral assembly of Georgia, and it is
hereby enacted by authority of same,
That from and after January 1, 1895,
article 3, section 4, paragraph 3 of the
constitution of 1877 be altered and
amended by striking out the word
"October" in the third line after the
word "in" nnd before the figures "1878,"
and substituting therefor th$ word
"July,” so that said paragraph,, when
amended, shall read as follows, viz.:
"The first meeting of the general as
sembly after the ratification of this
constitution shall be on the fourth
Wednesday In July, 1878, and annually
thereafter on the same day, until the
day shall be changed by law."
See. 2. Be It further enaoted, That if
this amendment be agreed to' by t.v/o-
tlilrds of the members elected to each of
