SAFE BEHIND PRISON BARS Two Young White Men Who Are Sus pected of Committing Nu merous Crimes, CAUGHT IN THE VERY ACT Committed to Jail on Three Charges of Uurglur) —Nome Strong Evidence Agnlnat Ttiem—tlobbed the Academy for the Blind* Frank Johnson and John Evans,%oth white, were committed by Recorder Freeman to the superior court yester day morning on three charges of bur glary. Johnson and Evans are young men about 13 years of age, and the olty de-! tectivcs are of the opinion that they are about the toughest pair that ever struck XIacon, as no less than five dif ferent'burglaries have been traced to their account. Some time ago tho Georgia Academy for tho Blind was burglarized, after wards the residence of Hon. James H. Blount was entered and robbed, and since then a number of oilier residences have been robbed, all of which have been traced to Johnson and Evans. While all of these burglaries have been committed Detectives Patterson and Jenkins have been right dose on the heels of the burglars and for some time have had Johnson and Evans un der surveillance. On Saturday, how ever, Johnson and Evans entered the Reeves house, on Fourth street, and while, attempting to rob the house were captured by the proprietor and several boarders. An alarm was'given and Policemen Wallace and Seth Knight responded. Both men were locked up, aud by the time they were called be fore ttie recorder yesterday morning the detectives had sufficient evidence against them to warrant their commit ment oa three different counts. Being unable to give bond, both were re manded to jail, where they will remain until the next term of court. Johnson nud Evans are, both strongly suspected of being the parties who have been doing considerable robbing down the Ceati-al railroad recently, and the detectives expect to have several more oases against them before court Convenes. Several pawn tickets Issued by Suvanaau pawnbrokers were found on their persons, showing that they had visited that city’ nnd a key found in the pocket of one of them was Identi fied by Principal Williams of the Blind Academy as a key to tho safe that had been stolen. There Is every Indication that tho arrest of Johnson and Evans has rid the community of two bold, desperate men. BHILOH’S CONSUMPTION CURB.
