A Great Day Among the Talent at Ehetps-

Bhecpahcad Bay, Aug. 9.—There were
seven race# on the programme today,
among them being the Beths and Flight
stokes. Ths attendance was very large
and good eport was Indulgsd In. One of
ths biggest plunges' of the year was mode
on Golden Rod In the second race,
thn heavy plungers were aboard and her
opening prices were posted at 2 to 1. 8he
closed In active demand at even money,
and It ts estimated that several fortunes
wore dissipated by tho ally's defeat She
rsui a superb race, but Tinge, a t to 1
shot, ran a trills better and got the de
cision.
Ths third race was supposed to be a
foregone conclusion for Don Alonzo, but
ths race resolved Itself Into a struggle.

The Belles stakes, a dash of about
thru-quarters of a mile for Allies, 2-year,
olds and upwards,' was robbed of much
Interest by Domino evading a meeting
with Clifford. Lady Violet, at the fall of
the flag, went to the front, and the task
she set was tcrrUlc. At the for turn
Clifford began to wear down her lead, and
after the awing Into the stretch, they were
on oven terms. Griffin then began to ride
Clifford with hands nnd heel* but ~ody
Violet, driven for sll she was worth, hung
to him with bull dog tenacity to the
end. Clifford finally forged to toe front,
amid Intense excitement, won a grand
rnoo by a bend. His rime of 1:25 86 lowers
the track race record by i-t of a second.
IN TUB PAVILION.
Ths attendance yesterday ws* about
the average, nnd speculation quite lively.
There was something of s "mlx-up" of
favorites and second choices and the tal
ent were kept guessing from start to
finish. And many of them guessed well.
TJidr returns were handsome. Just so.
Well there Is another gilt-edged card ot
seven races for this afternoon, nnd there
are seven nice, soft places to land. Pick
'em out. You'll get a run for your money.
