PROGRESS OF
REORGANIZATION
What Receiver Comer Says About the
Plan on His Return From
New York.
EVERYTHING WORKING WELL
*i»y« th« Set) cm. Will Tnrn Ont All
Right Without Difficulty—Ho Alao
Speaks of the Fight wetavern
Roads and Compreates*
Receiver H. M. Comer of the Central
tafiroad returned yesterday from New
STorU, where he has been in attendance
on the meeting of the Southern Railway
and Steamship Association.
The reorganization of the Central’s prop,
ertles Is no# the most Important consider
ation with those interested in the road,
and air. Comer was asked what progress
had been made with the new plan.
•’’There has practically been nothing
dt,ne oblate,” he said, "on account of the
tact that all of the attorneys, financiers
and others connected with tho work are
out of .the city on their summer vacation,
and there can be nothing done until their
return.
“There are a few details to arrange >e\
and they will probably get to work on
•then about the latter part of September,
or the first of October, when the plan will
be, announced and the deposits of securi
ty* called for. It will take very little
time to get it In shape, as all the parties
have practicaSly agreed upon it, and it
will doubtless be ready to be declared ef
fective by January 1. f
"There have been no changes in the plan
as- it has been stated, and I feel confident
that the plan will be carried out. All the
parties At Interest are agreed on its pro
visions, and I know of no resaon why it
should not he carried out without a
hitch."
''What about the differential?" Mr. Co
mer was asked,.
"The association had nothing ?o do with
that matter,’’ he replied. "It is at present
In the hands of the board of arbitration.
The arguments haVo been submitted to
them, and they will no doubt render their
decision at the proper time. What they
v?Ui do about it I can’t soy."
"What will the railroads do with regard
.to’ the cotton compresses?’’ Mr. Corner
/was asked.
* "All I have to say about that matter
How," replied Mr. Comer, "is that the
railroads found they were paying more
for compressing service than they could
afford, and more than the work was worth,
and they determined to reduce It. The
roads are determined in the stand they
have taken fn this ibatter, and l don’t
think there will be any back-down’
"The situation is a very complicated
one," Comer said. "If the cotton
could always be compressed at the start
ing point the roads might save considera
ble by having it done, as they can haul It
cheaper in that shape than when It is un
compressed. But the claA mis made that
they have to haul It a longer distance
and where they have to unload their cars
in transit to have the compressing done
arid then reload them, even though they
can transport it cheaper when compressed,
they do not make anything by having it
done.
* ,* "Again* it Is urged that by having the
cotton 'compressed in the Interior there Is
a saving to th% shipper, and In the end to
the proaucer. In the fact that the ocean
freight* rate Is made lower by the amount
which It would cost to compress the cot
ton at the port from which the shipment
lo made.”
With regard to the meeting of the aflifo- -
elation, Mr. Comer said everything had
been arranged to go for the next year, anu
that unless the several lines vhlch had
refused to sign the agreement did so with
in the time allotted, they would be out.

One White and One Negro Woman Ex
patriated.
•Masnie Banks, colored, and Eva Mar
shall, white, two disreputable charac
ters from the subsoil of society, were
before the recorder yesterday morning
bn a number of charges, anil on feeing
proven guilty Recorder Freem.tri sen
tenced them to pay fines of $50 each or
spend six months each on the chain-
gang.
After thinking the matter over, how
ever, the recorder decided that the as
sociation ’of the two women with the
other members of the gang would not
be conducive to the elevation of the
morals of that select circle and gave
them the option of leaving the city for
ever—not for it day. week, month or
year, but forever. Both promptly
agreed to leave at once and never again
gaze on the familiar scones of their
childhi'od or again put their feet on
dear old native soil, 50 with a fond
farewell Wiey hit the grit and struck
out for fields new and less familiar with
their characters.
McGlnty, notwithstanding the many
assertions that he Is at the bottom of
the sea, is repbsing In the city prison
because he can't raise $5 to pay his fine
for being drunk.
A * Drake Is also repining In du-
nrnce vile far rnlvlng a row at the pbst-
offlee and for contempt of court. For
the first ’offence he. was fined $5 or ten
d03 J 6 the c,ty pr,80n and for the sec
ond $50 or slvty days on the chain-
gang. Drake Is the black sheep of a
prominent and highly respected family*

tation in Macon. .
