LETTER FRON
ZAGK ROUSE
Says He Is Not Dead, the Dispatch
From Florida to the Con
trary Notwithstanding.
WILL DESTROY .HER- BEAUTY
I« What If* Write* to Eul* Widgeon*
Aft It Lured Him

God »»«■ Spared Him to
Is Zack Rouse dead?
If a letter received by Essie Widgeons
yesterday Is true be Is not.
It Zack Rouse is not dead, then who
Is the man mho was mufdertyy and
robbed at Live Oak, Fla, about two
weeks ago, as stated In On -Associated
Prei»3 dispatch from' tilrat place and
published 'throughout 'the country.
Yesterday Essie W-Mgeone, who waa
shot by Rouse, received a letter with
the Atlanta and Montgomery railway
poftofllce postmark. Which read as fol
lows:
• "Essie; You have no doubt seen In the
papers aceounits of my death. It Is not
so, -however, as you will some d;«y And
out. You blighted my life, and 1 Intend
to blight yours. The time Is not so far
off, either. God thus spared m-y life sev
eral times slrtoe 'that fatal morning,
and I firmly believe that 'he has done
bo in order 'that I may bo your de
stroyer. I will not kill you, but disfig
ure the faltal beuty that lured me to de
struction. ‘Zack
•Esade Widgeons says, as well as the
can remember, -tine -handwriting Is the
vame as 'that of Rouse and she firmly
believes the letter Is from -him.
The letter bore no date line, and gave
r.o evidence, except from the postmirk
on the envelope, as to -when and where
the letter mas mailed.
AJ 'though Essie -Widgeons know that
Zack Rouse was tn Live Oak, Fla.,
where he -went after shooting her, and
escaping from the old Commercial ho
tel Ip 'this city, she safd when Shown
the Associated Press dispatch that she
did not believe Rouse wax dead and
that the dispatch was managed In some
way by Rouse as a ruse to prevent ihe
officers of the law In this county from
going after him. Ever since Rouse left
Macon she. has been afraid he would
come back and Mil her, and since She
received the letter of warning yester
day she has been almost wild with ex
citement and afpald that he will carry
out his threat at any moment. Bho
now says that she wants the olUoe/a to
hunt him down and bring him back to
Macon, where he can be prosecuted for
assault with intern to murder, as she
will never feel secure until he Is safe
In Jail.' She says It Is -the duty of tho
officers of Bibb county to capture crim
inals whenever possible and '-not she
intends to Insist that ovoryohlng pos
sible -be done to capture Rouse, as her
life -will bo a torture as long os he Is at
large.
