GRAIN AND PROVISIONS.
Chicago, Sept. 21.—While trading today
In Wheat wan fairly active, it was confined
to. a rather narrow limit— J /fca%c., and
was, as has been the case for some
time back, of a strictly local character,
there being little or no outside orders.
December wheat opened at 55%; sold be
tween and 54%; closing at 55aV-
unchanged to %c. higher. Cash’ wheat
was easy; prices %c. lower.
Corn—On account of the slack shipping
demand for corn and to make elevator
rooqi for oats and wheat, both of which
pay d carrying charge to .May, elevator
concerns were ottering October corn at
%c. over May this morning against ]>£c.
yesterday. This was depressing and
sl3ted In maintaining the feeling which
prevailed throughout the greater part, of
the session. Corri opened steadier * on
light receipts here than estimated, and
on’ some covering by tho shorts. It
weakened shortly afterward, however, on
free selling by longs and moderate liquida
tion by country holder^ holding fairly
.steady at the decline on buying against
putt. Towards the ?lose the maraet ral
lied In v sympathy with the strength in
wheta and some covering by shorts. May
corn opened 52V4a , A; sold between 52V_.a51%;
closing nt 52%—%c. lower than yesterday.
Cash corn was slow; prices Vaalc. lower.
Oats continued to decline, Influenced
principally by the like action in the corn
murket. Business was cf fair volume,
although trade were all rather small. To
ward the close the market became firmer
In sympathy with :he increasing strength
in corn. May oats closed %c. -lower, than
yesterday. Cash outs were slow. Prices
were Vi to Vic. lower. , ,
Provisions opened rather easy on the
weak hog market and the outside selling.
There was one sale or 1.0W barrels of
long pork by a commission house, sup
posed to be for outside account, but which
was ready for Armour, that caused some
raiding by the bears. It did nor, however,
bring out nt*y further stoporde rs selling.
The market was a remarkably strong
V.A one In tho face of the weak grain r rrkets,
1' the weak holders evidently having bean
Jhaken out earlier in tne week. 'Award
