Chicago, Sept 29.—The news in wb*at
circles lncknei one ny and the seatl-
sseht of traders the other today. The
moat plauable reason for an advance,
-when nothing but depressing announce
ments were mode, was foun In the fact
that today marked thee nd of the month
as well as of the week as far as trad-
hg was concerned. With the steady de
cline that has taken pkice,of lat^ it Is
but natur.U that a short Interest of some
I'loportjioiis must have been created, ami
v, love.- ihoi*e outi.t.imhn.; .> ivlly
would to take place. This was the
feature of the half-lioUdaV section today
In addition to which the espousal of the
long side oy Linn was not without its ef
fect. as many traders and scalpers ‘rely
on the accuracy of bla Judgment. The
evening up of deals was the main busU
ness of the pit, very little in toe way of
new business being transacted. December
wheat opened at5 3H, sold between 53HaS
anl 537fe. cloeing at 63»iaT»—cents high
er than yesterday. Cash wheat was in
good demand and U of a cent higher.
Com.—As 'was wheat, so was corn to
day. The motive for the buying was
found in the desire of shorts to settle ac
counts for the week and month eo that
they would have free foothold on Octo
ber. Hollers of calls sold against their
privileges freely, but the demand soon
pushed the price above the limit and held
it there. May com opened at 4JV4. sold
between 49*4 and 60?, closing at 50*4—l
cent higher than yesterday. Sales of cash
corn ranged from U of a cent lower to %
a cent higher, the close being strong.
Oats tried io be consistent with the itne
at action marked out by wheat and corn.
The shorts in oats bought today. The cov
ering operations were the prominent
transactions of the session, prices ad
vancing. Cash oats wece equally as strong
os the futures, most sales being made at
Vi a cent advance on yesterday.
Provisions.—The buying of products
which was begun yesterday was continued
today, packers and commission bouses
both showing Interest on that side of the
market. Those who had outstanding con.
tracts on the short side were disposed to
buy, with the object of placing themselves
even for the month of September. There
wn3 an advance in live hogs which con
tributed further to the strength. At the
close January pork, January lord and
January ribs -were each 6 cents higher
than at the same time yesterday.
