Chicago, Oct IL—The uncertainty sur. rounding the government report having been dispelled, by the publication of that document, destroyed one of the elements cf speculation In grain today and re stricted trade to marked extent. The guesses and tips were at varience with the true figures, which, allthough they showed an improvement in wheat, were more than discounted/ by the sales of the past few days. There was, however, a lack of confidence In the present val ues and the little fellows sold freely whilst the heavy traders did little if any thing. Up until noon trade was narrow, but the kist hour was weak, the lowest point being reached during that time. December wlieat opened at 53>/4; ranged between 53Vja% and 52%; closing at 52%a53 —,.a% cent under yesterday. Cash wheat *ules were made at prices unchanged from yesterday, the nominall closing being weak. Com—Mors reliance was placed in Thomas’ report of the corn yield (1,635,000,- 000 bushels) as published in the Cmci'.n- iati Price Current, than in the govern ment figures as reported yesterday, orices sinking under the* weight of selling, in duced by the former estimate. Like in w’heat, the weakest portion of the selling was during the last hour, when the in side prices of the day were made. It was not a broad, market, but the disposi tion was to sell rather than to buy. May corn opened from 60% to 50%; sold be tween 50% and 49%; closing at 49%-Hc. under yesterday. Cash, corn was about %a% cents under yesterday, the nominal close -being a full cent under that day. Oats—The government report showed a slight Improvement In the yield of oats, clearly favoring a decline. The weakness of wheat and corn helped the decline. There W’as nothing of Importance In the tra;ie, the bulls displaying no courage May closed %a%c. lower than yesterday, Cash oats were unchanged, a fair de mand for them being seen. Provisions—An advr ice In the price or live hogs gave a firm tone to products and all of yesterday’s buyers tried to dis pose of their purchansees, but they were too eager to avail themselves of the Op- portunttles, the offerings bwomlng too large for Die prlce9 to withstand. After wards a decline took place, a prominent commission house bkl the pr.ces UP. with January pork 5 cents higher and January lard and ribs each 254 cents higher. NAVAL STORES.
