which everybody is roasting because
the management tried to fleece the
public by charging <1 for admission
after 60 cents was advertised, and the
•tredt railway convention, whiten be

day after tomorrow, Atlanta, has «iad
an exceedingly lively time of It hero
today.
Tne circus brought the country peo
ple frommt les around to town. They
viewed the parade and drank red
lemonade contentedly enough, hut the
town .boys and the circus people did
more than the usual amount of scrap
ping OJ. the. grounds. At one time It
looked 'like there would be a riot when
the circus people refused to accept 60
cent tickets for admission, after hav
ing advertised them at thait price and
sold them. It looked llko the regular
skin game practiced by cheap con
cerns. The reserve squad wuu called
out from pollctdl codquartera to put
down the 'trouble. Finally the circus
people had to give In and the 60 cent
ticket “went.”
There will be 600 or 600 street railway
men -here on 'Wednesday When their
convention opens. The hotels are nil
Ailed up with 'them already and every
train brings fresh arrivals. It will be
one of tihe most Important gatherings
that has ever assembled in Atlanta.
Every city of any consequence in ithe
cuuntry will bo represented by same
of the most enterprising business men.

all the big manufacturers ot riedtrical

Park, In the old exposition' building.

Atlanta, Oct. 16.—(Special.J-The
Democratic executive committee of the
Fifth congressional district met at the
Markham house today, and after a
thorough discussion of the question
ruled that the registration laws must
be enforced In the congressional elec
tion in Uhls district. Voters In every
oounty must be registered or they iwlll
not be allowed to casta ballot for con
gressman from the Fifth district. The
committee held that the deciOlon, of
Judge Speer, that registration Is not
necessary in the Tenth district, has
nothing to do with this or any cither
district.

Miller, a ipaitrolmun on the police force,
committed sulcfdo at his 'homo. No.
1 Venable street, this morning by tak
ing an ounce of laudanum. Miller,
who had been on the force for live
years, was In bad health, and the
only explanation of his act is ghat ho-
killed himself to escape a life of mis
ery. Miller leaves a wife and elx chil
dren In destitute circumstances.
ATLANTA'S EXPOSITION.
Contract for the 'FViundaitlon of the
(Main Building. -
Atlanta, Oet. 16.'—(Special.)—The
oontract for the foundation of the
main exposition building—'the manu
facturers'—wos'awarded today to Con
tractor W. W. Gilbert of Atlanta.
Work Is to be begun at once and the
building pushed rapidly to completion.
Oter contracts will be let now in short
order, and soon the buildings that are
•to house the great show will all be
under way. The grounds arc almost
all graded ready for the landscape
gardeners’ artistic work.
