Judge Bartlett returned last night from
Jones county, where he went to deliver an
address to the unterrlllod Democracy of
that grand old county. On account of
severe hoarseness, however. Judge Bart
lett could not speak publicly, but he put

The Savannah Officials Did Not Come
for Him.
Gannon, the young white man ar
rested by Chief Butncr at Itho request
of .the. chief of police of Savannuh, was
released yesterday afternoon, as the
Savannah authorities showed no dis
position to come for him.
The Savannah Horning News throws
some light on who Gannon Is and why
Ihe ; was arrested. He appears to have
taken In the town there with a com-
'panlon -and the two were charged with
stealing $20 from a .woman. Gannon
got out of town with the money, 'but
his oompanton was too drunk to leave
ond was arrested. The chief of police
there said he would send for Gannon,
but no officer showed up in IMacon.
