lected Today.
Tho Mercer Athletic Association will
meet this afternoon and organize a
football team. Offlcers will be elected
and players assigned to their places.
This will be done with a view to tak
ing up the challenges of the University

school boys, both of which teams have
signified their desire to kick the sphere

clerk’s office yesterday afternoon by
Bdwards & Greer. Hardeman, Davis &
Turner and E. A. Cohen, attorneys for
petitioners In tho litigation brought by
Melnhard Bros. & Co. and others
against P. Ltoptmn.
The bill was entered for record In the
clerk’s office four days ago. but wasjm-
medtately withdrawn to be served on
the defendants; consequently Its con
tents were not made public until yes
terday.
The parties to the bill are Melnhard
Bros. & Co.. Schley & Cb., L. Flschler,
M. Hemberg & Co.. Weinberg & Uhfel-
der. Freeman Bros.. Frank, Kahn A
Frank. Hornthal. Weisman. A Co., Op-

titioners by claiming to be a solvent
merchant, in order to secure large
amounts of goods on. credit. That he
would sell as many of the goods ns
possible and put tihe money in his pock
et, and whuit he couldn't sell ho would
mortgage to hta sklnamen and lnUmwiU
friends, who. the petitioners believe,
were in collusion with aim. Wltn this
scheme In view, and never intending to
pay for the goodB he bought from pett-
tinners, -hu bought from petitioners
about 56.000 worth of goods. After se

It is alleged that tho fraudulent

near kinsman. Gave Llppmun. 5750; to
Woltt A Happ, 54,332.25; S. Cohen. 51.000;
Wm. A. Cans, 5700; Southern Phosphate
Company, 52,500; -Max Oohen. 53,220.21;
John F. Lewis A Sop, 52,144.31.
The petitioners allege mat m order to
appear to have divested himself of all
property .that could be reached by law,
Llppman pretended to sell his Interest in
the copartnership of N. A. Gans A Co.
for 52,000. together with a trooi of land

A Chicken Snake's Onslaught on i
,’Nest of Eggs.
George Snells, a colored man. living
a few miles orft from East Macon, had
a nest of fine hen eggs destroyed by a
huge chicken snake a day or two ago,
and Snell's little boy saw the snake
commit tho deed. There were twelve
*? Jo. the nest of a fine game hen
that tho man’s wife had Just set, and
his smikeShfp madu away with the
whole lot with apparent ease.
The boy was hunting around under
the house for a ball -that had rolled
there, and he saw the egg-eating per
formance, or, that Is, the last part of
It, while crduched behind ono of 'the
brick pillars. The snake was colling the
last egg as the boy arrived on the
scene, and to all appearances was not
alarmed by tho Interested spectator.
The boy says that what attracted hta
attention to the place was the moving
head of the snake. He saw It bobbing
up and down In the effort of swallow
ing the eggs, and went closer to in
vestigate .It -was an Immense chicken
snake, Judging from the account the
boy gave of It, and must have been
six feet In length land eight inches In
circumference. The boy finally called
his father, who dispatched the reptile
