RETURN ENGAGEMENT.
Lillian Lewis to Appear Here Attain
Thli Week.
The Academy jot Music has arranged
with Miss Lillian Lewis to play a re
turn engagement In Macon .on Friday
night and at the Saturday matinee
November Id and 3d. when the famous
actrosa will appear as Oora in "L'Ar-
tlcle IT." As a pray this drama is a
masterpiece of the French modern
school, he story deals with Article 47
of the French penal codee. The actual
facts on whloh Belot founded this
drama were enacted In New Orleans
and were at that time the biggest sen
sation. The Cora of the play was shot
by her lover In the Grand Opera House,
and It Is this Incident which forms
the foundation of the play.
•Never before has “L'Artlcle 47” been
presented by so large a company as
that whloh will give It here on Friday
and at the matinee on Saturday. A
song by Miss Moore Is Introduced in
the first act. Between the first And sec
ond acts Mtss Gonzales will appear
and sing “A Simple Country Malden”
and "Love's Lullaby." This is an in
novation which Mr. Marston purposes
to elaborate, doing away with the
overture altogether, giving the patrona
entertainment not only when the our-
taln Is up. tout when it Is down as
well. In the second, act Mile. Adele
Carols, one of the best premier dancers
ever brought to this country, will, in
concert with the oorps de ballet, give
an adagio and a pas de sue fantastlque.
The big gambling scene in the third
act will be elaborately mounted and
realistically presented. Another feat
ure of Interest in this presentation o*
”L’Article 47” is th'at It will be the
fifteen hundreth performance of Cora
which Miss Lewis will play. It Is On
this character that Miss Lewis made
her first success. For four consecutive
years she .played Cora in “L'Artlcle 47"
exclusively. Miss Lowl was billed to
appear In other cities on Friday and
Saturday, November 2 and 3. but the
management of the Academy offered
such good terms that her managers
found It advantageous to buy oft the
contracts they had mode, anl so it is
that Lillian Lewis will be seen In Ma
con as Cora In “L'Artlcle 47."
'MILTON NOBLES.
That talented actor Mtl'ton Nobles will
be at the Academy of Music three even
ings of 'this week. Monday. Tuesday and
■Wednesday^ Tomorrow evening he will
present his latst play. "For Revenue
Only." Tuesday evening he will be seen
In .that sterling oomedy drama, “Love
and La>w“ and on Wednesday evening
in that powerful drama, “From Sire to
Son.” All .three of these are splendid
(plays, and are well acted by a very
strung cast.
The leading character In Milton No
bles' new comedy. “For Revenue Only,”
te a newspaper reporter. Mr. Nobles’
performance of this and Bohemian in
“The Phoenix” brought him fame nnd
fortune. The reporter in his new play
Is satil to be a most modern and reputa
ble style of character.
The chief character in “Love nnd
Law,” as played by Mr. Milton Nobles,
is a cbol-headed and witty Irish attor-
,ney, Felix O'Palf. who rescues the hero
ine front bre abductors toy personating
one of the villains of the play, on Ital
ian organ grinder. His O'Palf 13 an ex
cellent .piece of aolipig.
Two acts bf “From Sire to Son"’ are
located at Yuba, Cal., during the days
of the Argonauts. The greatest compli
ment that the drama has received Is its
enthusiastic irecoption In California and
its praise by the entire press of San
Francisco. One able critic ‘there pro
nounced it the ablest play, yet written
by an American dealing with California
lire and character.
GOOD COMIC OPERA.
Thomas Q. Seabrtooke and his opera
company, in the "Isle of Champa, gne."
will appear at the Academy of of Music
on next Thursday. November 1st. There
la a ,bacchanal buggasSan in the /dear
upon which the cbmic opera “The Isle
of Champagne" Is founded. Centuries
ago this Island was settled by natives
of awirc vine-clod country. No water
was to be had there. So grapes were
cultivated, and the champagne made
from them was the only beverage used
by the Inhabitants. The opera opens
with a fete scone in honor ofKing Pom-
mery's birthday. A ship from New Bed
ford. Mass., which has met with a dis
astrous voyage, comes into port, and
the first strangers that eyer stepped
foot cm the island have landed. They
bring with them water, a fluid hitherto
unknown to the subjects of the king:
the people become frantic over the new
found beverage, and the king takes ad-
vorjtaige of this fact to replenish the
bankrupt treasury toy 6elllns out to
them. In older to beoomo owner of this
remarkable fluid, “whloh clears the head
and toraces the nerves.’ tbe king mar
ries the owner of ithe vessel, a strong-
mirded New England woman. His son
wishes to marry the woman's compan
ion, and a complication of affaire en
sues. which is sSI right after the king
has become rioh again by selling the
fluid at 33.30 a quart aad 31.75 a pint.
An Important member of tihe organiza
tion Is the pretty prlma donna soubretto
Elvia Crox. who win too seen in her orig
inal role of "Diana, the Belle of the
Isle."
