met at 8:20 o'clock pursuant to the res
olution adopted yesterday to allow
members time to vote In the congres
sional elections.
Senator Patrick Walsh was chosen
for the abort term. In ths house he
received 102 votes and lu ths senate
20. Hines, who was voted for by the
Popnllsts for both long and short
terms, received 7 votes In the senate
and 30 in the homo on each roll call.
A. E. Burk received 3 vote* In the
house as tbe Republican candidate for
both term*.
Tbe vote for MaJ. Bacon In both
house and senate waa tbe same as that
cast for Walsh for the shore term, be
ing 102 votes In tbe house end 20 In
tbe senate.
Tomorrow the two houses will meet
In Joint session to receive t?Io an
nouncement of tbe vote today and to
formally declare me election of Sena
tors Walsh and Bacoa.
The only Incident of the election was
when Honan of Lincoln attempted to
eulogize lilacs In placing his name be
fore the house sod was called down liy
Rockwell of Chatham. Johnson of Hall
also look Hogan to task, demanding
to know whether bis remarks were :u

They Endeavor -to Wreck a Train Load
ed With Democrats.
. Thomsston . Nov. 8.—(Special).—A
train on the Macon and Birmingham
rail Food loaded with Democrats going
to -tho polls to vote came near being
wrecked seven mile* west of this placs
this morning by n misplaced rail on a
high Ml.
For several days oast it has been ru
mored that-the Populists would attempt
to wreck the -train, -which they knew
would be loaded -with Democrats on
their way to vote, but no ope thought
they would attempt to cerry out such a
desperate plan. The railroad authori
ties had been notified, however, of the
threats, and the train crow kept a look
out. Developments have shown that tho
warning wus -well taken, as otherwise
the train, which was a special, might
have been wracked and a great many
killed amt injured.
The railroad authorialeo have n num
ber of Populists under surveillance, and
their arrest Is likely to ooour a: any
