From the above table it will be seen
that out of the eight precincts In -the
county Whittaker only carried two.War-
rlor by 46 majority and Hazard by a
majority of 1. It also shows that Judge
Bartlett received a majority of 3,971 in
the county. The total Populist vote In
the county is only 315, against 601 in
the state election. This Is accounted
for from the fact that the negroes voted
with the Democrats In Tuesday's elec
tion.
Judge Bartlett was almost snowed un
der wtth telegrams at congratulation
yesterday, and though the majority of
the Democrats were a little blue over the
result In Now York and other states,
they -were proud -that oldGeorgia had
kept the faith and that Charley Bart
lett would wrestle with the Republican
majortly in. congress.
The official relume In the oou-ntles of
the district are slow In coming in, but a
conservative estimate gives Judge Bart
lett at least 5.500 enidori-ty In the dis
trict. Pike, contrary to Are." reporta
strayed from -the fold, and gave Whit
taker the insignificant majority of 167.
This was no surprise, however, as the
ooun-ty was conceded to the Populists by
200 majority as stated in the Tele-
Bra, pit's forecast on T the morning of the
eleot'ton. The vote tn Pike stood. Bart
lett. 804: Whittaker. 1,071. This Is not
much showing for a candidate’s Own
county.
The glorious Democratic victory In
the Ninth district seems to have
aroused 'the muses In Jones county, a-nd
Judge Roland T. Roe}, the ordinary,
who is one of the rock-ribbed, uniterri-
fled Democrats, sends along the follow
ing verses with his returns:
"The last gun has been fired,
The battle cry Is hushed,
The Democrats have all they desired.
The PopuHst hopes are crushed.
The drum will -beat no more,
The sound of war is gone:
The struggles fierce and hard are o'er,
The blasts have busted Tom Watson's
horn.”
The official vote In Jones is, Bartlett.
621: Whittaker, 466. Bartlett"* madorlty.
A special to the Telegraph from For-
pyth says the official count In Monroe
gives Bartlett 517 majority. The Demo
crats are happy and the Populists are
gloomy. •
From ail over the district oome glad
ridings, and the Democrats are happier
thorn they.have been in years.
