BEAUTIFUL GRIFFIN,
Ono of tlio Towns of Which Georgia
May Well Be Proud and
Boastful.
IT IS A RAPID GROWING CITY
Col. Douglas* Gietinsi’s Prophecy as to
•bo City’s Future—Colony of Grape
Growers to Locate There—Some
Striking Features Cited,
Griffin, Nov. 10.-(Spcclal.)-GrIfiln,
lying at the base of the Piedmont es
carpment, one thou-sand oue hundred
and fifty feet above the sea level, en
vironed by a country of marvelous fer
tility, is one of the most favored spats
in all the southland. 1 speak from the
impression it made upon me as I
looked out over the far-reachiug
stretches of fertile country from a
voutago point, while over it all liung
the soft, purplish haze of the Indian
summer. I can well believe that ibo
home seekers from the blizzard-swept
Northwest, once .ndueed to cotue and
view this land, would seek no c.her
state but Georgia. Oae of the most
sanguine believers In the future of
Georgia, and particularly of Gridin, Is.
Col. Douglass Glessner of the Grlffiu
News. “In ten years from now,” says
the colonel, “Griffin, will have twenty
thousand inhabitants. This will be
only keeping in line with the develop
ment of the whole state. Griffin has
already become' noted as the center
of a fruit growing section, and during
the coming year a colony will be lo
cated near Griffin and one tnousand
acres planted with grape vines.”
Wine making has been attempted
and the results obtained show that the
soil and climate of this section of Geor-
gi.i are particularly adapted to tlio
successful culture of w.ne producing
grapes, and in the near future w.no
making will become a valuable factor
among the wealth producting indus
tries of the state.
In spite of hard times Ur.filniies are
hopeful, and proud of the development
and progress they have made, and uot
tv.thout cause. A new thill PeUmvs’
hall and opera house noar.ug comple
tion and new structures going up lu
different sections of the city are points
in evidence. All Grifiln needs to bring
It up to date Is electric street car
lines.
While discussing Griffin, It Is in place
to add that she has reasoa to be proud
of her handsome women. Were 1 in
search of perfect types of American
women. I need go no further to find
them—winsome and blonde, with gol
den hair, and stately bruuettes with
eyes dark and tender, aro all here.
I met a gentleman hero who lias
traveled extensively lit the West and
Northwestduring the past summer.
He says: “The trend is til toward the
South, and no state otters greater ad
vantages to settlers than Georgia.” Ho
did not forget to say a good word for
Macon. Speaking of the central loca
tion of Macon and the advantages it
possesses, he said: “Macon la ten
years from now will be a city of eev-
cnty-flve thousand people if It Is prop
erly advertised."
