FODBD DEAD IN THE FIELD. Robert Home Went Hunting With Two Young Friends Saturday Horning, HE GOT LOST FROM THEM «d They Return'll Home. Without film—Sunday Morning III. Body Was Found With a Load of Shot In Ills II.art. Robert Horne, a son Of Joe Horne, both of who were engaged In hauling malt for the Acme Brewery, was found dead yesterday morning on the Bagby plantation, about four miles south of the city. The circumstances surrounding his death were quite mysterious, until the coroner’s Jury Investigated the matter and returned u verdiat to the effect that young Horne camq to his death by a gunshot wound accidentally In flicted by himself. Young Horne, 1n company with two young men named Aurle Bright, the son of the late E. A. Bright, an en gineer, and Ciiff McKinney, bookkeep*. er at the Macon Oil Mills, went bird hunting Saturday morning. They drove to the country In a wa'gon, leaving the wagon near the forks of the creek and taking to the fields. The three young men hunted together up fo about u o’clock, when Horne walked off down toward a small branoh, where he had noticed a. number of robins. It was Shortly after 11 o'clock when his com panions heard a gunshot • from the neighborhood of the branch. They were about ready to go over to an adjoining plantation and called to Horne, but got no answer. They then decided to look for hlim and went to the place where they thought Horne had last shot. They failed to And their companion at that point and continued their search through the woods. Finally, supposing .that Horne had simply strayed oft In search of game and was out of hearing, they fired their guns several times to attract bib attention. SUU there was no answer, and the two boys then concluded that Horne had also been looking for them and that in this way they had missed each other, and that Horne had prob ably gone back to the wagon. They returned to the wagon, hut Home was not there. Young Bright suggested to McKinney that they wait around in the neighborhood In hope that Home would show up after a while. The boys, therefore, hunted In the vicinity of the wagon until nearly 5 o’clock In the afternoon, 'but still their companion failed to come. They were then thor oughly alarmed and drove at once to Home’s home. In the wagon was their companion's coat, which he had left In the wagon when the three took to the fields. The boys turned the coat over to the parents and reported the facte as above related. The parents waited patiently for the return of their Bon, but the night wore on and Mill he did not come. Early yesterday morning Joe Horae, the father. Van Home, an uncle, ana Charlie Horn*, a brother, and Jack Fontaine gcft in a buggy In company with young Bright and hit axr.pn«4on of she day bajore. McKenney, and the party drove to the place where young Home was last seen. Bright and Mc- Keaney pointed out the spdt where they stood when Home left. Ithe party to go alitor adiCns. and ithe searching ipanty soon found tracks leading to that direction. They tfoSlawed the (trail untfl they reached (the root where the boys thoughlt Hiame must have stood when they last heard him shout. The locally was 'thoroughly scoured, each of the searchers going In a differ ent dlnsatlon. Finally whait seemed to be a humani body was found lying In a loft of tangled weeds and Vines. It turned out to toe .the 'body W young Horn-. He lay flat on his back, his gun lying about a yard dram his feiet. A dark hole In Ithe vest lust.over the heart fold the 'tale. The hole rwus nearly two insiwa in dlamefter. and Ithe vest was scarohed and darkened with powder and .blood, clearly showing than the muzzle of 'the gun nvuslt have rested Dignlnst him when the fallal dhidt was fined. A twngllM vine was caught In (the. trlgjar—ttho y-Yrng man iwas evidently training has gun. when a vine ovugbit (he integer. (thereby Jerking ithe muzzle against the young man's breast and causing he hammer to fall, discharging the entire load into the heart. Both shells were in the gun. and btoth were empty, but one had .been Shot at a bird, while 'the other had killed the young hunter. The body lay within ten or fifteen feet of the spot whore his two com panions had stood The day (before when nsirchlng for him. but ithe weeds ex plained why 'they failed Ito discover it. The young man's body was carried at onoe to Ms axurenlts’ home, near Plant nnd Tindall avenue. Sotlth Moron. The scene aft 'that modest home Hast tognt, with mother, father, setters, aurtt and brekker kneeling nbout the death couch, crying to heaven for mercy, was more sad •than If pomp and splendor had sur rounded the bload-tltalned bier. The two young men who hold accom panied Horn* an bis hunt dtood by. looking on the cedd body of their dead companion, and ftlwflr hearts seamed as Bomy touched as'those of the kindred. The young men related the story to a Tele*rash reporter us told above, ur.d cut the leasr. suspicion cap possibly rest on (them.
