THE MACON TELEGRAPH: SUNDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 2, 1894,
T
SEORGIA-PRDDOCE COMPANY,
Bright Oatlouk for the Future Under
Its New Management
and System.
FACILITIES ‘GREATLY INCREASED

From Kow On—Important
Information fo Shipper*
Tie Telegraph! menttaaed last week
that M'*J. A. C. Knapp, formerly trafy
11c ratferoyger of Hie Georgia Southern
nod Florida railroad, had bought out
and o sfturroed con'Sroj of the Georgia
Produce* Company.
Thie 'major ttakes to thda new line of
business like a duck to waiter, and when
a Telegraph reporter eaw him he was
fcuij* in tyU office, while carpenters were
riit work making necessary improve
ments to the Georgia Produce Compa
ny’s place of business at 660 ^Poplar
street.
The Georgia Produce Company under
MaJ. Knapp’s management is to greatly
increase facilities for business and will
be oj*e of ‘tfhe largest produce commis
sion houses in the -South. It is only an
other one of the gratifying signs of ibo
times and is worth noling in connection
with the various business improve
ments about the dty.
“We Intend to do more business;
«hafs all/’ ©aid Mad. Knapp. “It re
quires a considerable amount of mov
ing about and fixing up to do it, but
we will soon have this work out of the
way.
“I-n tlhe meantime, we have made nil
arrangements to do business on a large
scale. We wll ncit only handle Southern
produce of all kinds In any quantities,
but will also 'handle Western produce
of all kinds.
“We have fhade arrangements, for
instance, by which we oan take a
man’s whole crop of oranges and handle
it to a better advantage than he pos-
ably could. We do .tiliis by hawing val
uable eonneotlcns In'all the larger
cities or the couritry, thereby befog note
to place ldts of fifty cars of fruit where
J* Hooded and where it will bring
. the best prices. TOiia is an advantage
to the grower, and he will Invariably
save money by turning Ms products
over to us, because we keep thoroughly
posted on "he markets and arc always
able to tell where goods will sell to the
best advantage."
Maj. Knapp is well quillfled to handle
a business of t'hls volume, and lit la safe
to predict that Ms conduct of the Geor
gia Produce Company will reflect credit
on Macon's business importance and
commercial strength. The major Is a
man whom the newspaper fellows feel
that albey can never say enough good
of, and tlhe Telegraph reporter has
been laying low for Mm to make the
announcement of, Ms new departure
sice tt first became known. MaJ. Knapp
meeds no introduction to people of this
section or of Georgia, for his long and
prominent connection with the railroads
of 'this staite have made hits name fa
miliar to most people. He is a man of
fine business aMltity and high prVnck
pies. Jibe mind of the average man
•would be struck at once with the fact
that his long connection with various
railroads 1n khe South peculiarly fits
him for handling produce In the Cheap
est 'and most effective«way, and, mo
doubt, this will be one of the strong
points In Maj. Kntipp's favor In the
economical management of Ms busi
ness. He has always been accustomed
to answering a heavy correspondence
dally, and nothing would please Mm
better than to answer every Inquiry
made by produce men throughout the
country. They will assuredly find him
prompt, reliable and careful of their
every interest. 9
