heard of. Mayor Horne, however, has
recommended that the charter be so

abolished, but whether this will be done
remains to be seen.
It Is not yet known who. if anybody,
will oppose Mr.* H. P. Westcott for
clerk of the market house.

Sun will probably recall to the minds
of some of the old-timers the man men
tioned:
Royal Prescott Hubbard, one of the
old conductors of the “Underground
Railway” for sending slaves to Can
ada before the civil war, died of para!
ysls at the home of a relative In Chi
cago on Wednesday. He was 90 yeare
old. sir. Hubbard was bom In Sun
derland Starch 4. 1806. When 23 years
Old he moved to Macon. Ga. His abo
lition views were strong, and he was
warned to leave the state nnd was
threatened with hanging. He went to
a farm In Lee county, III., In 1846. He
took an active part In Owen Lovejoy's
slave-freeing schemes. He came of the
same stock as Prescott, the historian,
and Harriet Prescott Spofford.”
