MACON. July 17.—Our dispatches

6 points higher, with the close l to
points advance, the latter on the'ne w c

Is unfavorable. Rains In Teasy, 'w!

We submit the government report for

over the eastern and central portion! of
the belt, being heavy at Gainesville, Ga.,
2.26 inches, and Goodwater. Ala., 2 inches,
and light showers have occurred In Ar

Oklahoma or Texas.
In the local market we have a good
demand from the mills, and the cotton

NEW YORK. July 17.—The general
course of the market was upward on
purely legitimate Influences. In fact, the
manipulated July option acted as a draw
back to better things, being heavy and
unsupported most of the day. The mar-
kst opened steady with July 4 points
lower and the other months 1 to 6 points
higher. Soon after the call fairly good
Southern And European buying sifted In
while shorts lost confidence In their posi
tion and covered nervously. This buying
rent prices well tip to the top notch oi
the previous day. All the morning 1 the
market was disposed to work higher, the
English cable-3 being decidedly firmer than
expected, weather reports • showing con
tinued drought over the Western belt
and local rains only In tho central bolt,
while moro unneeded, soaking rains had
(faleln In the South Atlantic states. Again
reports from Southern spot markets Indi
cated strong convictions on the part of
holders. Business dwindled to a mere
scalping trade at noon and early in the
late session prices settled several points.
But at 2 p. m. there was a marked change
for the better on reports that hot winds
had set In over Texas and were doing
great damage. Southern buying order*
again became a feature and shorts here
with confidence and for the re*t of the
day the market exhibited a Arm under
tone. The> close Was steady with prices
net -1 to 12 points higher.

-NEW YORK. July 17.—Much to the sur
prise of the trado, Texas advices this
morning were without Indications of rain
at any point In the state, although cloudy
conditions were forecasted for the day
and night. Sellers again withdrew am
left the bulls in full control, nnd the Ini

heavy rains and at Little Rock had moist

papers claimed big ralm In Mississippi

no marked change of late. Bulls are te
