The county commissioners yesterday
called the election for Mr. Shlnholser’a
succeaaor, naming August 13 aa the
time.
It had been thought that the elec
tion would not be* called for a couple
of weeks yet, but In the opinion of
County Attorney Walter C. Smith the
election should be held within thirty
day# from Mr. Shinhoiaer's death. The
registration books have been open all
the year, but as there has been no. oc
casion for hurry, the people have for
tho most part delayed to register, and
very few of them are qualified to vote.
They will have about twelve days now
to attend to the matter.
Up to this time Mr. J. J. Amaron
is the only candidate In the field. Mr.
Ed. Artope le being extensively men
tioned for the place and on yesterday

be impossible for him to send the horse
to Atlanta to be entered on Saturday
In the road race. Mr. Moreland said
as tits reason for not sending Harry
was that he had already entered him
Ip several races In Birmingham for the
championship of the city.
Macon Is beginning to be looked upon
ns the state center of thorough bred
horses. One of tho members of the
Mncon Driving Club received a flatter
ing offer yesterday for his horse from
a party in the north.
Everything !• hanging In the balance

terday In a slow gait. Hundreds of
the Atlanta sports were at the track
to get a glimpse of the horse that has
lowered the state record, and whose
present condition points to a still low
er record.
Many of the Macon sports will go to
Atlanta today for the purpose of plac
ing a few of their greenbacks If they
can find any Atlanta takers. A tele
gram was received from Atlanta last
r.tght stating that all of the oight Ma
