I'MIH'IS HOUSE PARTY BOOK.
Among all tho entertainment* and
nmuaementa of the summer treason,
there I * nothing 00 eagerly anticipated
or more thoroughly enjoyed than a
bouse party. A epacious. airy summer
home, with deep, cool veruudaha and
a ehady lawn la an Meal place to spend
a week'* pleasure In the wiciety of con-
gculal spirits. It In a welcome escape
fmui the noise uud dust of a city, and
few Invitations to house parties are
refused. For the amusement of the
guests »ome ingenious person has de
vised flu* unique scheme of a “hou'ic
party book.” The idea of this bright
writer, which will no doubt be adopt-
Sfl by mnhy who contemplato giving
house part ley, is copied from the N>v
York Tribune:
Eplgruma and a stock of apt quota
tions will be much in demand this sum
mer from all who anticipate visits or
n house party in sons country hom'
The** are called forth by the present
fid of th* visitor's book, which not
only the hortets, but even many of the
ffu*wta are beginning to keep on hand.
The object of the bo^K is to keep a
record of Intorestlng facta of ths visit,
quaint or amusing happenings and fa
vorite characteristics of the country
s**at. Many books or« convplete little
work* of art, each page containing the
history ofi a Visit. It In a popular plan
to obtain ths photograph of tho house,
with perhaps those of the host and
hostess, for the center of tho lurge
page, white the mimes of tho guests.
If It Is a house party, ero written
around tho outside of the page by each
one, that the owner of the book may
power* her friends* autograph*.
Sometimes a photograph Is also re
quired of each on* who inscribes her
name in the book. The addition of
me witticism, quotation or expressive
sentiment is much nought after, and
• far toward making tho book in-
stlng. An artist frequently
sketches or paints some dainty bit at
her contribution, and If the owner
herself knows bow to draw or paint
sho will illuminate designs for
page of her book. Considerable rare
and rklll are called forth In the ar
rangement of the photographs
page, and In planning the rpneet to be
assigned for autographs and quot
tl<>n*. The mere grouping of the
things may bo rendered exceedingly
artistic and quite pretty enough to
make one overlook a lack of technlcnl
ability in drawing. These book* oft-
become valuable little record* of de
lightful and charming companlnnxhtr
