commerce serving a lifetime sentence
In the federal prison near this city.
Hotema was once a mighty man of his
race but his career as a lead&r is at
un end. His crime was that of mur
der and he was sentenced to be hung.
President Roosevelt, however, saved ids
neck by commuting the sentence to life
time imprisonment. #
Solomon Hotema Is a .perfect type of
his ancestors and his race—-the Ameri
can Indians. He was brought here

mantic career. During his lifetime he
has held positions of trust and Influ
ence among his people, serving at va
rious times as representative, senator,

a f* w hours of each other, riddling
their bodies with bullets without enu «e
or provocation.

ter of Mrs. Hardeman, withdrew from
the house and snt In a buggy In front
of the Jones residence during the re
mainder of the service. After the ser-

enrage Suttles. according to statements

eral members of the party, when a few
hundred yards away from Suttles ana

Llngham Trading and Timber Com
pany of London, which recently Inaug
urated a line of steamers between Pen
sacola and Houth African ports, has
received a contract for handling 100,000
head of Texas cattle through thl» port
to South Africa, and the next vessel of
the line, which Is due here In a few
weeks, will carry a large cargo of live
