MACON AMI Till*. FAIR.
So far as the Macon Telegraph may
oe authorized to express the aentlment
of the people of the Central City, It de
al ree to record their appreciation of the
good wishes for the success of the fa r
of the State Agricultural Society, to be
held In Macon next October, a» set
forth in the editorial columns of the
Atlanta Constitution and Journal.
The Constitution says:
Since the bid of the Gate City was not
accepted, 'here Is no other place In tne
•tato where the citizen* of Atlanta would
prefer to have the trial# fair go than to
Macon, and the visitors from this city
will ba numerous.
The impetus given to the agricultural,
mining and stock raising business of the
state by the annual fairs of the State
Agricultural Society Is productive of splen
did results Annual fair# are now held in
eighteen states of the Union, and Illinois
has invested $*<00,000 for such an enter-

the notural order of things—and that Is
th* best of all booms. It is substantial

orderly, by nature, and In seaaon it lasts
forever. That’* Macon.
We would not exchange it for any
"boom" town In America of double Its
population. We would not swap it for
Oolconda If we had to lie ^bout it to
make it “boom."
Macon is all right.
WANT THIIITY THOSUANI) DOLLARS
The meeting of business men at the
Lanier In the Interest of the State
Fair was an earnest of bucccsb, If any
further guarantee was needed. The elec
tion of Mr. J. W. Cabaniss as president,
Mr. E. P. Willingham as first vice-
president, and Mr. R. C. Hazlehurst as
second vice-president, makes assurance
doubly sure. .
We have never seen a better, or more
reprcncntatlve gathering of Macon
bunineps men. We have never seen them
more united or detenhlned to pull to
gather and make a success of fa. move
ment in the interest of Macon.
The guarantee required by the State
Agricultural Society Is In hand, but w
should not stop at that amount. W
cannot atop at It. We ought to raiae
$30,000 and put into this underta'. 1

government Is expected to put on the
grounds and buildings. Let *the can

The Idea advanced by the Boston ne

be free and happy without office, and
the right to vote, is too absurd for a
