Correspondeat.
From the Atlanta Journal.
All patriotic Georgian# will f««i an
Interest and pride In the laudable un
dertaking of Mias Louise Dubose of
Athens to secure a sliver service for tho
battleship Georgia, now building at
Bath, Me.
This modern man-of-war will soon
ride the waves, the monster represent
ative afloat of the greatest state in tho
South, Bnd it Is a happy suggestion that
w* begin now to secure the custom.try
service of sliver to present to our nam;-
»«ke. The movement could be In no
more capable or charming hands, and
Governor Terrell Is to be congratulated
In having delegated this Important
work to one so popular and talented as
this fair daughter of Athens.
In her hands the success of the move
ment Is assured. Indeed, Miss DuBoeo
has already made considerable headway
In arousing Intereat and securing con
tributions from various quarters. She
has carried ths work forward at If
there were not a moment to lose. And
there Is npt If we are to present "our
battleship" with s service worthy rf
the great state of which she Is to be the
representative afloat.
In this connection, the very happy
suggestion hns been made by Mr. fl.
W. Posted, the Atlanta correspondent
of The Macon •Telegraph, we believe,
that we go a step further and make It
a service of gold—gold taken from the
hills of Georgia. And place It upon a
table of Georgia marble. And present
lt to our namesake off the coast of
Georgia, either at Ravannah or Bruns
wick, so that thousands of Georgian*
may see "our battleship" and witness
the ceremony.
The Idea has been generally Indorsed,
and It Is possible that it may be adopted
In part at least. We know nothing of
Re practicability from a standpoint of
iost. but certainly It would be fitting
and lasting evidence of Georgia’s great-

Is here, both gold and sliver, and mar*
